The Assistant Athletic Director (AD) for Communications serves on the Director of Athletics senior team and is the lead representative of the UNC Asheville Athletics Media Team. The employee in this position serves as the primary spokesperson for athletics communication and is point of contact for Men's Basketball plus additional sports teams as assigned. The employee is responsible for leading the communications team to effectively communicate the University's message with their assigned respective teams, the athletics department, members of the external media, visiting team representatives, and the broader constituents of the university, i.e. students, alumni, supports, and the general population.

The Assistant AD for Communications is responsible for developing and managing publicity through a variety of communication media. This includes the strategic planning, development, and creation of print, electronic, broadcast, and Web-based content. This includes writing, researching, developing, and editing various athletics department communications materials, including press releases, game notes, game programs, creating graphics, game programs, and feature articles for assigned sports. There is also the possibility for sport program supervision as determined by the Director of Athletics.
