Associate Director-Student Engagement

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of the Center for Student Involvement, the Associate Director of Student Engagement serves as a member of the Center for Student Involvement (CSI) leadership team and participates in the development, of the Center's programs and services. The Associate Director will provide strategic direction and support to a critical area of student involvement: student organization programming, advisement and education. The Associate Director will oversee a team consisting of three full-time area specialists who are all responsible for supporting the programmatic efforts of a student organization portfolio that includes more than 50 student organizations that range in size and scope as well as creating leadership development experiential opportunities. The Associate Director will work closely with these staff members, students, and campus partners to execute the vision for University signature events such as Summester, Fall Fest, Homecoming, SpringFest, Relay for Life, and Student Life Awards. Successful administration of these events must promote accessibility through various technologies in addition to in-person components. This position will lead initiatives centered on virtual platforms to improve global access to signature programming The Associate Director will work closely with student organizations to provide them with program planning support and advisement while collaborating with university colleagues to ensure student organization programs and initiatives are successful. The Associate Director will be responsible for creating and implementing opportunities to increase the effectiveness of student organizations by offering innovative trainings and other educational opportunities.The Associate Director will serve as the program manager for the governing bodies for the undergraduate and graduate student body populations (Student Government Association and Graduate Student Government), as well as student activist groups. The Associate Director will work collaboratively with CSI leadership on the day-to-day management of the Center and will work closely with the Director to achieve the mission and goals of the Center. The Center for Student Involvement is a highly collaborative unit that strives to engage students at all levels of our operation. As such, the Associate Director will explore methods to increase opportunities for students to become more engaged in our experiential opportunities. The Associate Director will leverage technology to improve customer service and student development, will manage a series of budgets and will engage in goal setting and assessment to measure student success and learning.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Excellent problem-solving skills and exceptional interpersonal, organizational, verbal/written communication skills as are developed skills and knowledge of social media platforms and techniques. Able to work collaboratively and be able to make sound decisions independently. Knowledge and skills required for this position are normally obtained through a Master's degree in higher education/student affairs or equivalent is required in addition to 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in student activities, major event management and leadership development. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience supervising full-time staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

1) Student Leader/Organization Education & Development | Develop and facilitate educational opportunities for student leaders (both executive members of organizations and general NU population.) These programs may include online platforms, conferences, presentations and off-site leadership retreats. | Collaborate with CSI staff to identify opportunities to strengthen our student organization educational offerings. | Foster an open, safe and inclusive environment for our student leaders. |

2) Student Organization Programming and Advisement Supervision | Supervise, train and evaluate three full-time area specialists within Team Engagement. Oversee the program development process for more than 500+ student organizations and 900+ events per year. | Provide extensive support for university signature events from conception to execution. Budget Oversight | Administer operating budget allocated to the support and development of the Student Engagement Team. | Oversee student activity funds allocated to support major programs facilitated by the Center. | Student Support | In conjunction with the leadership team, oversee the development and revision of policies and procedures pertaining to event planning. | Provide strategic direction (in conjunction with the Director) over the development of Student Organizations, which includes the development of curriculum, discussions and collaborative efforts with faculty and other staff. | Evaluate and assess signature programs and events by the student engagement team, identify trends in higher education that impact student engagement. | Provide strategic vision, in conjunction with the Director, over signature programs such as Fall Fest, Homecoming, Relay for Life, SpringFest, Student Life Awards, etc. | Work closely with Legal Counsel and Risk Management to reduce liability and risk exposure within student programming efforts. | Program manage a portfolio of high-profile student organizations.

3) Global Network student engagement | Serve as a lead CSI liaison in cross-campus collaborations to make engagement opportunities available to the larger Northeastern Network of campus locations |Serve as the CSI liaison to conversations surrounding the development of programming and relationships with campuses and experiences outside of Boston. | Ensure that programming is scalable and policies are consistently applied across all Northeastern experiences in collaboration with the CSI Director.

4) Other Duties and Logistics | Participate in the overall management of the Center for Student Involvement and provide professional development support to staff. | Collaborate with external colleagues on divisional committees and projects, as required. | Consistently review and increase the Center's use of technology to improve customer service and student development. | Seek innovative strategies to engage our globally distributed student body. | Other duties as assigned

5) Program Management |. | Provide event planning support to student organizations and serve as a team member within the administrative work flow. | Meet with students and student organizations to develop a vision and budgets for their events. | Informs students of policies and helps with coordinating of their programs. | Communicate effectively with performers, vendors, agents & middle-agents. | Negotiate contract terms in conjunction with Legal Counsel and talent agents. | Attend events as necessary to ensure on site success.
