Affiliated (Part-Time) Faculty Member Developing an Aesthetic Sensibility The Business of Creative Enterprises Program
Join our community and experience Emerson College!

The Business of Creative Enterprises program at Emerson College seeks an Affiliated (Part-Time) Faculty Member for the “Developing an Aesthetic Sensibility” (BC 210) course for the Fall 2022 semester that runs September 2 through December 16, 2022. This class will meet: Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:00-1:45 PM.

The department seeks candidates who can contribute to the excellence and diversity of the academic community through ongoing engagement with students both inside and outside of the classroom in addition to traditional creative accomplishment/research, teaching, and service.

This unique course for second-year students within the BCE program, is designed to immerse students in the power of aesthetics, exploring the intersection of beauty, taste, values, and community. Some of the topics include: How does beauty cultivate a deeper sense of our relationship to ourselves, our work, and our community? How does feeling what someone else finds beautiful create a connection where there was a misunderstanding? Does beauty sometimes confound ideas about consumption as exchange versus connecting to something as sublime?

The course is composed of a mix of aesthetic theory, required observance of a mix of aesthetic experiences including, but not limited to: theater, film, visual art, and music. Discussions will explore individual preference, value and subjectivity, while challenging students to be specific about what moves them-and open to understanding what doesn't-while continuously connecting to, and practicing, empathy and appreciating creativity.

Emerson College believes the pathway to achieving inclusive excellence and fostering a campus climate where everyone can thrive is only possible in an authentically inclusive, diverse, equitable, accessible, sustainable and socially just environment. As a community of storytellers, we continually strive to cultivate a community that draws upon the widest possible pool of talent to unify excellence and diversity while fully embracing individuals from varied backgrounds, cultures, races, identities, life experiences, perspectives, beliefs, and values.

The Business of Creative Enterprises program is among one of the first of its kind in the nation. They offer a BA degree and have many opportunities for community engagement through events like the annual BCE Conference. This program specifically hosts abroad programs in Sweden and Australia in addition to Emerson's already established presences in Los Angeles and the Netherlands.

Among the first of its kind, the Business of Creative Enterprises (BCE) program at Emerson College is dedicated to exploring the intersection of business and creativity in the Creative Economy. The BCE program is a vibrant community of leaders, scholars, and learners, connected across education, experiences and industries. The unique curriculum is designed to teach students the core skills transferable across all creative enterprises. The BCE leads programs in Sweden and Australia, includes an established presence in the Netherlands and Los Angeles, and annually hosts The BCE Conference which explores the future of the Creative Industries.

Emerson College is the nation's only four-year institution dedicated exclusively to majors in communication and the arts in a liberal arts context; the BCE program gives students the freedom to explore within all those contexts and find the art of business in every corner of the creative industries Emerson specializes in.

Emerson's main campus is located in the center of the dynamic multicultural city of Boston. The college enrolls over 5,800 graduate and undergraduate students from more than 70 countries and all 50 states.
