Director - IA Events

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:
Utah Valley University is seeking a Director in IA Events. This role plans, manages, and produces major events held on behalf of the University with a consistent excellence and presidential standard. The Director of Institutional Events has primary responsibility for collaborating with the Senior Director of Executive Events, Vice President of Marketing & Communications, Associate Vice President of Strategic Engagement, and Deputy Chief of Staff for the university planning, implementing, and managing events related to the university campus and the Office of the President. The Director also leads and assists with major special events under the Division of Institutional Advancement and plays a collaborative role in all Executive Events initiatives, including the President's Scholarship Ball. This includes support in planning, strategizing, coordinating and implementing events for campus branding, university and Presidential recognition, fundraising, cultivation, and other designated executive and institutional events. Responsibilities include programming, guest/sponsor/list management, record keeping, administering budgets, vendor communications, and other event duties. The Director helps supervise UVU's Student Ambassadors and the initiatives that correspond with those duties (approx. 15 students). This position also manages and directs a large staff of university employees, volunteers, and vendors during the execution of an event. Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline plus three years of staff level experience or an equivalent combination of education AND/OR experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling seven years.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of event features, including planning, marketing, and production from inception to post-event assessment.
  • Knowledge of event physical layout, invitation list development, RSVP tracking, seating management, program development and scheduling, ticketing, catering, audiovisual services, special needs, event or speaker security.
  • Knowledge of fund raising and donor stewardship procedures, techniques, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of marketing and public relations best practices.
  • Knowledge of social networking culture, software, and strategies.
  • Knowledge and experience in volunteer management.
  • Knowledge and experience managing budgets and vendor contracts.
  • Knowledge in office productivity software, including Microsoft Excel.

  • Strong writing and editorial skills.
  • Basic skills in graphic design software including Adobe PhotoShop, Illustrator, and Indesign.

  • Ability to lift and carry event materials to and from event sites (min. of 25 lbs.).
  • Ability to drive (with a valid driver’s license).
  • Ability to travel out of state occasionally when required.


Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in event planning, communications, public relations, or other related field, and 3 years of relevant event planning experience.

Pay Range: $51,755 - $64,693
