Job Summary

The incumbent will provide educational leadership in the development, implementation, management and evaluation of research based, integrative statewide Extension programs that meet the needs of limited-resource and socially disadvantaged farmers.

  • Knowledge of the evaluation of programs, events, and activities for the documentation of impacts;
  • Knowledge of the development of evaluation instruments for educational programs, events and activities.
Essential Job Functions
  • Develop and/or utilize councils, advisory groups, and program committees to facilitate community involvement in programming.
  • Identify, enlist and train volunteer leaders to help carry out program responsibilities.
  • Provide technical subject matter information in Animal Science to producers, youth, agencies and interested citizens.
  • Collaborate with other Agriculture Educators, Specialists, and Director of County Operation to plan, execute, and evaluate educational programs at the county, region, and state level. · Disseminate research information, identify researchable problems, and communicate informational and research needs to the land-grant faculty. ·
  • Apply for, and receive extramural funding (grants, contracts, gifts and fees).
  • Independently or collaboratively, conduct applied research projects leading to publications. Contributes support in the strategic planning process for the Animal Science program implementation and evaluation.
  • Provides accountability for reporting program results with pre-determined measurement standards for the Animal Science program team.
  • The Specialist understands current and emerging issues of management, laws, research, public policies and risk management as it relates to production, maintenance and distribution.
  • The Specialist is able to communicate to consumers and producers the impact of animal production on the environment, to address waste management and other related issues.
  • The Specialist will provide assistance and collaboration to other specialists and statewide faculty; establishes formal partnerships, local and multi-state agreements, with other Extension systems, agencies and organizations.
  • Independently or collaboratively, conduct applied research projects leading to publications. · Assists in providing priorities for the Animal Science program team for resource allocation to facilitate appropriate programming and for program enhancement.
  • Provides accountability for reporting program results with pre-determined measurement standards for the Animal Science program team.
  • The Specialist understands current and emerging issues of management, laws, research, public policies and risk management as it relates to production, maintenance and distribution.
  • The Specialist will develop publications, curricular, media releases and other educational resources to market and deliver outreach services; develops and distributes bulletins, pamphlets, fact sheets, newsletters, in service trainings, and digital products to support the needs of Extension Agents. · The specialist will develop and provide quarterly/ annual reports and provide success stories with evaluations to document program impacts.
  • Participate in other activities such as committee service and recruitment.
  • Build collaborative relationships with other agencies and organizations to multiply effectiveness and avoid duplication’s of programs.
  • Develop and implement a public information program about Animal Science.
  • Provide timely and accurate information in response to public requests.
  • Establish and/or maintain cooperative efforts with Research Scientist and Extension specialists at other institutions both regionally and nationally.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Animal Science or DVM with a focus on small ruminant production.
  • 3-5 years of work experience in animal husbandry related industry at the grass root level.
