Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelors or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of three years relevant work.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • AALAS Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) certification required with Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) certification required within 12 months after hire.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • Ability to function independently as well as compatibly in a team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated skills in communication and conflict management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Office.
  • Must be able to perform in an environment with exposure to animals, animal dander, animal byproducts, and bedding materials for prolonged periods of time.
Additional Information
  • Position is considered essential and may be required to report to work during school closures, inclement weather, and/or other emergencies.
  • Candidates will be required to provide proof of academic degrees and certifications.

Job Function

Research

Position Description
  • Supervise, train, and formally evaluate non-exempt technician personnel in a complex animal facility within a high energy environment.
  • Maintain animal facility compliance with regulatory and university requirements, accreditation standards and departmental standard operating procedures.
  • Confer with researchers regarding day-to-day operations as well as special animal handling and treatment needs.
  • Supervise maintenance of departmental records and disposition of animals.
  • Maintain inventories of equipment, instruments, and supplies.
  • Assure compliance with FAS HR policies and occupational safety programs.
  • Participate in decisions regarding hiring, evaluation, development and termination of employees.
  • Develop and schedule facility maintenance and support tasks.
  • Participate in planning and executing departmental goals, policies and procedures.
  • Allocate and assign space for incoming animals.
  • Participate in and support lean management initiatives to improve quality and productivity.
  • Other duties as assigned.
