Lab Technician
About the Opportunity
Summary
The Department of Psychology is now accepting applications for a full-time Lab Technician to join an interdisciplinary lab focused on social, cultural and political dimensions of sustainability challenges. This position will be based at Northeastern University, where they will work closely with Prof. Sara Constantino, and a team of PhD students, postdocs and collaborators at other universities. The lab will explore research questions related to cooperation and collective action in the context of environment, climate and social inequity; the dynamics by which social movements / norms / narratives emerge and existing ones become entrenched (e.g. social tipping, social norms, cultural evolution, polarization); and the impacts of acute shocks/crises on communities, political behaviors and adaptation decisions. Additionally, there are two current NSF-funded projects that the Lab Technician will help coordinate. One is on how we perceive and misperceive “social reality”, and the other one is on how neighborhood and community-based organizations shape resilience and vulnerability to climate change through interactions with local politics. The position is ideal for someone planning to apply to a PhD program, and for someone with interdisciplinary interests focused on applied problems, such as climate change and poverty.
Responsibilities
The Lab Technician will primarily coordinate research and resources in the lab to aid in the lab's day-to-day affairs. The Lab Technician will also be able to help develop and lead some novel research projects as well as participate in ongoing projects, with opportunities to publish research in academic journals.
Qualifications
BA/BS in a relevant social science field, and a demonstrated history of experience conducting research and writing scientific papers. Familiarity with statistics including statistical software (e.g. R), and comfort with both quantitative and qualitative research and analysis methods is preferable.
