Job Details

Landmark College (LC) is the premier institution for neurodiverse students with learning disabilities such as dyslexia, ADHD, autism, or executive function challenges. In fall 2021, LC established a physical presence in the California Bay Area with our Success Center. An expanding, fully accredited college with a base campus in Vermont, LC has expanded through online programs and the Success Center to serve neurodiverse individuals with services, courses, and degree programs.  Due to growth at the Bay Area Success Center, LC seeks a new Learning Specialist at its San Mateo, CA location.  A flexible schedule and generous signing bonus are available.

Working remotely and reporting to the Director of the Success Center, the Learning Specialist is responsible for providing personalized, online support services to students and other individuals over various time zones. Services provided to clients may include knowledge and skill development in the following areas: study and learning strategies, transition, executive function, and social and emotional learning.

The Learning Specialist will have working knowledge of profiles of neurodivergent students and be well-versed in evidence-based interventions. Proven experience working with neurodiverse individuals online is a plus.  The Learning Specialist must also be able to teach high school and college-level active reading, writing, and math strategies, as well as strategies to support notetaking, test-taking, time management, problem solving, prioritization, and goal setting. Other responsibilities include managing student support data, identifying and assessing student success, and providing insight and tracking metrics for program success. The opportunity exists to fulfill these duties in either a half-time or a full-time role, depending on the candidate.

QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Psychology, Psychology, or a related field expected. Several years of study skills intervention at the high school and/or college level is highly desirable with experience in online learning and engagement desirable. The ability to relate to and communicate with teenagers, young adults, and adults is necessary.   Preference is given to individuals with experience working with neurodiverse students who learn differently and those willing to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

Diversifying the student body, faculty, and administration is congruent with LC’s mission. We value diverse populations and cultures, including but not limited to ethnicity, gender, gender identity, national origin, neurodiversity, disability, race, and religion.

LC offers fulfilling employment with a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits program to full-time employees. Interested individuals should apply with a cover letter, CV, and full contact information for three work references to the Director of Human Resources: humanresources@landmark.edu.  To find out more about the College please visit us: www.landmark.edu.

Company

Landmark College

While many colleges offer special programs for students with learning disabilities (LD) and other learning challenges, Landmark College is one of the only accredited colleges in the United States designed exclusively for students who learn differently, including students with learning disabilities (such as dyslexia), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and autism.

Landmark College’s mission is to transform the way students learn, educators teach, and the public thinks about education. We provide highly accessible approaches to learning that empower individuals who learn differently to exceed their aspirations and to achieve their greatest potential. Through the Landmark College Institute for Research and Training, the College aims to extend its mission across the nation and throughout the world.

Students at Landmark College get far more personal, directed assistance than at traditional colleges that often offer a grab bag of accommodations for students with learning disabilities, ADHD, or autism. Students at Landmark College receive individualized attention from classroom instructors—in courses tailored to meet their educational needs. This is evidenced by our exceptionally low student/faculty ratio of 6:1. Our experienced advisors meet frequently with students to review and guide their progress. In addition to advising, a wide array of other academic support is integral to a Landmark College education, including executive function coachingeducational technology support, and the services of our centers for academic support. All instructors are trained professional educators, not teaching assistants or peer tutors.

Landmark College is located in Putney, Vermont, in the southeastern part of the state. The campus is two and a half hours from Boston and four hours from New York. Southern Vermont also has a great deal to offer. Within half an hour of campus, faculty, staff and students can find amenities more often associated with an urban environment, including movie theaters, shops, restaurants, live music, art, and theater. Members of the campus community who love the outdoors will find world-class skiing, snowboarding, hiking, kayaking, and mountain biking just minutes from campus.

Our Office of Human Resources strives to ensure that we are an employer of choice, attracting and retaining uniquely talented individuals able to advance the College’s position as the college of choice for students who learn differently. We are committed to a philosophy that recognizes each person as an individual, worthy of respect, trust, dignity and fair treatment, and we apply these tenets to serve, support, and value all members of our community.
