The Student Services Department serves as a network of student-centered support and resources, providing a nurturing, holistic, and inclusive environment where students have access to a broad range of support services, are provided opportunities for campus engagement, and are linked to resources for their academic and personal development. As part of its student services mission, CCC is committed to providing undocumented students with equitable and inclusive access to available student support services and resources to assist them in achieving their higher educational and career preparation goals.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

Reporting to the Dean of Student Services, the Associate Dean of Student Services and Undocumented Student Liaison assists in managing the college’s Student Services Department, providing administrative direction and leadership for student-support operations within assigned areas. Develops and implements student engagement, retention, and success efforts; supervises staff and oversees the effective delivery of student services; and fosters an empowering learning environment for students.

As an educational administrator, the Associate Dean works collaboratively with academic leadership to create a culture of student success; provide students with the knowledge, resources, and support needed to achieve their academic, career and life goals; and contribute to the college’s goals of access, retention, completion, and success.

The Associate Dean also serves as the college’s Undocumented Student Liaison, working in close collaboration with other designated liaisons and the Coordinator to develop and implement programming with a focus on how to best serve undocumented students, leading to increased enrollment, retention and completion within this population.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Administration
  • Assists the Dean in managing the Student Services Department. Works with key staff to develop performance goals and objectives; implement programs and the delivery of student support services; evaluate operational effectiveness; and effect changes for continuous improvement.
  • Supervises staff accountable for the oversight of assigned programs and functional areas such as: Advising, Registration, Testing Services, New Student Orientation,Student Activities;Transfer Resource Center; ACCESS Center,Veterans Services,Wellness Center, Athletics Department and other departments/programs identified by the college.
  • Assists in developing policies, procedures and interventions that promote student success practices; works to integrate the functions of the Student Services Department in a manner that is responsive to student needs, campus life, and the community.
  • Assists in the annual budget preparations and overseeing the department’s budget and fiscal resources. Participates in preparing grant proposals for project funding as required.
  • Monitors budget expenditures and approves purchase requisitions and related expenditures.
  • Participates in the interviewing and selection of management and professional staff in coordination with Human Resources. Enforces personnel policies and procedures.
Student Services Operations
  • Works to establish and implement processes and enforces policies related to areas such as: Title IX, student conduct, and Supportive Intervention Team (SIT) committees.
  • Implements student-focused initiatives and special projects, organizing campus teams to effectively execute programs and provide student support services.
  • Assists in the administration of college’s judicial affairs as outlined by CCC’s Academic and Student Policy Manual.
  • Provides supports to key college administrators in the implementation of the college’s Strategic Enrollment Plan.
  • Assists in implementing plans for student registration each semester, working with key staff to ensure efficiency of operations during peak registration periods and a seamless registration process for students.
  • As directed, oversees the preparation of various program assessment reports; p repares reports detailing division activities; and ensures the preparation and submission of federal and state compliance reports.
  • Serves on various college level and district level committees focused on initiatives to increase student access and success and/or campus priorities and goals.
Undocumented Student Services
  • Coordinates the provision of more focused and enhanced campus resources and services to undocumented students to support their enrollment, retention, and completion.
  • Implements strategies to ensure undocumented students receive needed assistance in navigating financial aid challenges and accessing resources including academic and career counseling, in collaboration with campus staff.
  • Partners with college departments to coordinate meaningful and relevant programming focused on resources and support available to undocumented students.
  • Participates in reviewing institutional policies and procedures directly affecting undocumented and providing recommendations to help remove barriers students face while pursuing their educational goals at CCC.
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of college websites, resource guides and informational materials for undocumented student services.
  • Reviews college retention, completion, and other data relating to undocumented students and prepares reports.
  • Participates in various professional development, training, and other relevant opportunities, including those provided through the Illinois Dream Fund Committee.
  • Serves as a member of CCC’s Undocumented Student Roundtable Committee/Advisory Council and other relevant college/district committees.
  • Remains current with legislation that may impact CCC’s undocumented students.
  • Oversees the operation and activities of Undocumented Student Resource Center.
  • Publishes monthly newsletter for college’s undocumented student population.
  • Serves as an advisor to the college’s Undocumented Student Organization.
  • Coordinates community events and informational sessions.
  • Performs other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Student Services, Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education Administration, or a related field
  • Five years of senior level administrative experience in student services administration, preferably at a community college
  • Experience motivating, mentoring, coaching, and developing departmental staff as appropriate with sound supportive leadership and supervisory skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with diverse populations of undocumented and mixed immigration background students desirable
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues that impact undocumented and mixed immigration status students desirable
  • Experience with the financial oversight of significant budgets and resources
  • Evidence of participation in development/implementation of programs or activities designed to support student enrollment and retention and/or drive student success and engagement
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success, diversity and inclusion, service excellence, innovation, and collaboration
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Ability to handle all situations with solid clinical judgment, tact, and diplomacy
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and multiculturalism in one’s work
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel PowerPoint)
Chicago residency is required for all full-time employees within 6 months of hire.
