The academic affairs unit in the VCU Office of the Provost, operating under the senior vice provost for academic affairs, provides leadership to critical areas tied to academic quality and student success. The academic program proposals specialist will report directly to the assistant vice provost for academic programs, and will facilitate the development of proposals for approval by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV). These proposals will include but not be limited to degree and certificate program proposals and organizational change proposals.

The specialist will guide and provide training to VCU faculty and staff with varying levels of experience in developing, editing, refining and finalizing proposals, and will coordinate proposal advancement through the necessary VCU governance and SCHEV review and approval processes. The Specialist will meet directly with SCHEV staff to receive feedback on proposals, and will convey that feedback to the appropriate VCU stakeholders. This position will also ensure transparency and integrity through accurate reporting of proposal status and results in a variety of reports, including a dashboard.

This role is essential in supporting reimagined curriculum transformation, meeting the bold vision of the provost in the contexts of shared governance, VCU’s strategic priorities, the Virginia Plan for Higher Education and Virginia’s policies for higher education and the interests of accrediting bodies.
