Job Description:

The Department of Infectious Diseases and Immunology, College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Florida, is seeking an individual for a full-time faculty position to include research responsibilities in molecular and cellular parasitology. The qualified applicant is expected to have extensive expertise in parasitology, molecular biology, cell biology, glycobiology, biochemistry, gametocyte culture, mosquito infections, and CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing in Plasmodium falciparum. The applicant must display strong leadership skills and is expected to mentor staff, graduate, postdoctoral researchers, and students in malaria transmission biology.

The successful candidate must be highly motivated, enthusiastic, well organized, able to multi-task, reliable, and able to interact well with others.

Expected Salary:

Salary will be commensurate with experience of the successful candidate.

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. in parasitology or a closely related field; evidence of first-author research productivity (publications, presentations, etc.); demonstrated experience in culturing P. falciparum parasites and Standard Membrane Feeding Assays (SMFA) is required, as well as a deep knowledge of gametocyte biology and P. falciparum transmission. Required expertise in PCR, real-time qPCR, molecular cloning techniques, protein purification and Western blot, P. falciparum in vitro transfection and CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing; ability to develop an original research program in the field of malaria biology; and must have at least 3 years of postdoctoral research experience in a US or European laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in glycobiology, glycomics, and mass spectrometry is preferred.
