This NCWIT Research Associate position will work closely with NCWIT’s corporate team to help our industry members implement strategic approaches to creating inclusive cultures. In short, this position involves conducting research, applying that research in real-life industry settings, delivering presentations and developing practical resources and tools to help organizations implement research-based practices for creating inclusive cultures and for increasing the meaningful participation of women and girls in computing. This position will also involve working with the broader NCWIT social science team on research, evaluation, and other projects as needed.

 

Who We Are

The National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) is a non-profit community of nearly 1500 universities, companies, non-profits, and government organizations nationwide working to increase girls’ and women’s meaningful and influential participation in computing. NCWIT equips change leaders with resources and tools for taking action in recruiting, retaining, and advancing women from K–12 and higher education through tech industry and entrepreneurial careers.

 

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

This position will be responsible for the following:

  • Advising NCWIT member organizations as they implement promising, research-based practices.
  • Advising and collaborating on new NCWIT research projects.
  • Identifying NCWIT industry member needs and existing gaps in NCWIT’s industry resources.
  • Reviewing research, synthesizing reliable findings and promising practices, and relating these to other relevant research.
  • Translating this research into new industry resources to meet NCWIT member organization’s needs, taking into account the knowledge base already built within NCWIT resources.
  • Updating and repackaging existing resources as needed.
  • Collaborating with NCWIT Communications and other relevant staff to develop multi-media formats and other vehicles for sharing research-based practices and advice.
  • Disseminating resources and research findings to relevant audiences (e.g. at academic and industry conferences and other speaking venues, relevant publication outlets, NCWIT’s online repository).

What We Can Offer

The salary for this full-time position is $80,000 - $115,000 annually.

What We Require

  • A Ph.D. in anthropology, communication, cultural studies, sociology, education, management, social psychology, industrial psychology, or related field.
  • Expertise in research related to diversity and computing fields (or education, organizations & society more broadly), especially as relates to intersections among gender and gender expression, race, class, sexual orientation, ability, national origin, or immigration status.
  • Strong academic-literature review skills, writing skills, and demonstrated ability to “translate” and synthesize research articles into language and practical tools for lay audiences.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Experience with or strong interest in resource or curriculum development using multi-media platforms.
  • Experience with or strong interest in advising academic, industry, nonprofit, government organizations (or other lay audiences) on the implementation of research-based interventions and practices.
