Ice Rink Co-Manager


Description
This is a part-tome position responsible for supervising the operation and maintenance of Kenyon Arena for Middlebury's Athletics Department.

The salary range for this position is: $18.00 - $26.10 per hour.
Requirements

Essential Functions:
• Must be able to work cooperatively with others and accept direction from supervisors.
• Builds ice surface, scribes and paints ice at the beginning of skating season and summer session.
• Surfaces ice periodically during the day as needed (before figure skating club, Men's and Women's practices and games, Intramurals, special clubs and organizations, summer clinics).
• Assists in preparation for and operation of Middlebury games, Tournaments (Men's and Women's, Holiday, Post Season and Prime Link) and Winter Carnival Ice Show; also high school and prep school games and summer camps.
• Assists in scheduling events and times on ice.
• Supervises activities on the ice.
• Cleans and maintains boards and glass.
• Assists coaches as needed.
• Assists visiting teams by greeting, showing them their locker rooms, etc.
• Manages clock operaters, goal judges, announcers and potentially fills any of these roles for a game, as needed.
• Reports repairs and needs to Facilities Management.
• Performs light maintenance of Zamboni: daily grease, charging batteries, checks fluid levels and changes and sharpens blades.
• Performs weekly and sometimes daily edging of ice with special edges.
• Responsible for removal of ice at end of each season (regular and summer).
• Performs periodic maintenance of ice and repainting of ice.


General Responsibilities:
Work collaboratively as part of the team to manage the Kenyon Arena.


Education:
High school diploma.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of ice care and surfacing, operation of ice re-surfacing equipment.
• Knowledge of collegiate hockey games and tournaments.
• Good interpersonal skills. Familiarity with home and visiting rink-related operations personnel.
• Must be on-call 7 days per week, including holidays during the ice hockey season.


Experience:
On the job training possible, previous experience with operating Zamboni preferred.


Physical Demands:
Light lifting. Climbing into and operating Zamboni. Early mornings and late evenings, depending on the usage schedule of the ice.
