Job Description

The Mary and Jeff Bell Library at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) invites applications for the position of Instructional Services Librarian at the rank of Assistant or Associate Librarian. This is a non-tenure track faculty librarian position; rank will be determined based on qualifications. Under the Director of User and Research Services, the Instructional Services Librarian will coordinate and assess the library's face-to-face, virtual, and asynchronous instruction efforts. This position is responsible for supporting both library teaching staff and TAMU-CC faculty in creating learning experiences, in multiple formats, that focus on increasing students' information literacy skills and abilities. This may include lesson plans, LibGuides, tutorials, videos, and other digital learning objects. This position will also work closely with the I-Know Instructional Design Librarian to support the integration of information literacy into the curriculum at TAMU-CC. Recent graduates and mid-career librarians are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates the library's instruction program, including management of the instruction calendar, marketing of instruction services, and collection of instruction statistics.
  • Coordinates the planning, creation, and updating of digital learning objects such as tutorials and videos. Provides support to other library staff engaged with creating such materials.
  • Provides support to library teaching staff and to instructional faculty creating information literacy assignments and activities.
  • Serves as the manager for the library's LibGuides platform and provides training and support for other library staff.
  • Collaborates with the I-KNOW program to support the development and deployment of the university's digital information literacy quality enhancement plan.
  • As a member of an instruction team, provides information literacy instruction sessions both in-person and online, and creates lesson plans, learning objects, and assessments as needed.
  • Provides reference services via chat, phone, email, videoconference, SMS, and in person.
  • Collaborates with staff in other units to help optimize the functionality of library systems and resources for patrons.
  • Increases professional competence through formal or informal study and professional development activities and is encouraged to develop a record of scholarship/creative activity.
  • Serves on library, university, and/or professional committees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Library Science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program. Current MLS students graduating on or before December 2022 may apply.
  • Familiarity with information literacy concepts and ability to apply those concepts in a university-level academic context.
  • Evidence of leadership, entrepreneurship, and initiative.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and willingness to experiment with new methods and technologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with library colleagues, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Demonstrated commitment to service excellence, diversity, and inclusion, and a patron-centered approach to library services.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • One (1) year of relevant academic library experience in a public services capacity.
  • Experience developing and teaching library instruction sessions.
  • Experience coordinating library instruction activities.
  • Experience with program assessment.
  • Academic background, coursework or experience with instructional design concepts and their application, as well as knowledge of learning theory, including active learning pedagogies.
  • Experience with working at a reference desk and assisting users with research-related questions.
  • Experience with digital platforms, software, and other technologies applicable to online learning, for example learning management systems or Springshare's LibGuides platform.
  • Knowledge of accessibility requirements and tools for remediating issues.
  • Experience with non-traditional and/or first-generation college students.
  • Demonstrated contribution to the profession, including scholarly publications and/or presentations and service to professional organizations.

Minimum starting salary: $55,000. Salary will be determined upon qualifications and experience.
