Position Details

Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job
Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following in regard to research activity:
· Coordinate the research curricular thread along the four-year undergraduate medical education.
· Ensure compliance of all elements of Standard 8 of the COCA Accreditation Standards which include:
  • Research and Scholarly Activity Strategic Plan
  • Research and Scholarly Activity Budge
  • OMM / OPP Research and Scholarly Activity
  • Student Participation in Research and Scholarly Activity

· Overseeing the College’s research committee
· Facilitate student research initiatives through managing the intramural and summer scholars’ programs.
· Build synergistic transdisciplinary research programs across colleges
· Identify funding sources and facilitates integration with Sam Houston’s Office of Research and Sponsored Programs for effects of grant submission.
· Overseeing strategic investments (Budgetary manager)
· Serves as the primary compliance officer for the College.
Performs other related duties as assigned. Educational Requirements for the Position
Minimum Requirements :
• A PhD, DO, MD or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years experience in a professional program
• Experience and qualifications suitable for appointment at rank of associate/professor
• Leadership/administrative experience within an academic setting

Experience Required for the Position
Preferred Qualifications :
• Consistent record of publication and funding
• A record of scholarship including external grant funding and scholarly publications
• Experience developing and fostering community partnerships and inter-university collaborations
• Experience in curriculum development, including both face-to-face and online learning
• Demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations
• Experience with academic program accreditation in health sciences
• Experience fostering a culture of research and academic excellence

An ideal candidate may have experience of mentoring junior faculty and students to develop a research project for presentation at national scientific conference and for extramural research funding. The applicant must have outstanding communication and managerial skills and an understanding of all biomedical and clinical disciplines which comprise the College of Osteopathic Medicine. The applicant must be able to work with and lead a diverse group of people. Other Requirements for the Position
The Director of Research is a member of the College of Osteopathic Medicine leadership team who is the liaison between the College, the university at large, and the community in matters related to research activities.

The Director of Research is expected to:
· Work with the College of Osteopathic Medicine department chairs to support departmental research missions and activities;
· Facilitate faculty research initiatives;
· Facilitate student research initiatives;
· Identify and facilitate faculty development as it related(s) to research;
· Track all faculty and student scholarly activity for the College;
· Incentivize faculty research endeavors;
· Facilitate transdisciplinary research programs across colleges. Special Instructions Summary Open Until Filled Yes
