Job Description

We invite qualified Maintenance individuals to apply for our General Maintenance Technician opening. Our Physical Plant team cares for the University buildings and grounds. Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Physical Plant, the General Maintenance Buildings Technician performs a variety of general maintenance and repairs to ensure all university buildings remain in good physical condition.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
  • Use a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, painting, roofing, concrete finishing, welding, and related trades to perform work involving maintenance of building structures.
  • Drywall installation and repair. Ability to tape, mud and paint.
  • Basic Framing skills using wood or steel studs.
  • Install or repair interior ceilings and floor coverings
  • Use gasoline or diesel powered equipment such as forklift, skid loader, dump trucks, zero turn mowers, weed eaters and chainsaws to complete projects.
  • Assist with snow removal.
  • Assist with special events; set-up and tear down
  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the University’s discretion.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Representative, but not all-inclusive, of knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job competently.
  • Basic ability to tape, mud, and paint drywall and other surfaces
  • Basic framing skills using wood or steel studs
  • Abilities to install, maintain and repair mechanical locks and key cylinders
  • Able to create keys for distribution
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • One-year post-secondary trade school or vocational in one or more of the listed trades
  • OR three years’ experience directly related to one or more of the listed trades.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Commercial Driver’s License
  • Experience with electronic key systems
Physical Demands

Heavy Work:
  • Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, and work space restrictions.
