The Director of the Center for Academic Literacy (CAL) provides leadership to various programs and initiatives designed to facilitate student development in writing, reading, oral communication, analytical thinking, study habits, and other related academic competencies. The Director reports to the Associate Dean for Information Services/Senior Director of John Bulow Campbell Library.

Essential Functions:

Train, support, and supervise academic coaches with intentional training for serving students whose primary or first language is not English.

Provide 10-12 hours per week of one-on-one consultations to help students improve their graduate-level academic competencies (e.g., writing, speaking, reading, listening, time management).

Create and lead workshops to help students cultivate transferable academic and professional skills.

Develop and implement programming, services, and resources that empower students to improve and enhance their analytical writing skills, public writing skills, reading and study skills, cross-cultural communication, and oral communication skills needed in a variety of theological and religious contexts.

Create and maintain digital resources and tools to support academic coaches, faculty, and students.

Promote the center and its activities to faculty, staff, and current students.

Collaborate and consult with faculty members to create learning opportunities in the classroom as needed and appropriate. Implement and maintain assessment tools and quality enhancement protocols for the center.
