ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR FOR EQUITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

Salary:

Minimum $85,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

The minimum starting salary for the position is $85,000 but is negotiable based on qualifications.

Job Summary:

The Center for Teaching, Learning & Mentoring (CTLM), located within the Division for Teaching and Learning, seeks to hire an experienced professional to serve as the Associate Director for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in the newly established CTLM. The Associate Director for EDI will design an organizational plan and framework for establishing and enacting equity, diversity, and inclusion as core principles of the CTLM. These efforts reflect the need to create learning and working environments where all people have the opportunity to succeed. The person in this position will serve on the CTLM leadership team and advise the Associate Vice Provost/Managing Director and leadership team on advancing EDI efforts in CTLM and the Division for Teaching and Learning. This person will also establish and maintain partnerships with academic departments and with other units on campus whose work focuses on EDI. The Associate Director for EDI will work collaboratively with CTLM staff to ensure the programs and services CTLM offers and the ways in which they are offered align with equitable, diverse, and inclusive practices. This position is in a new center, which presents a unique and exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to shape this role by recommending and testing effective practices and policies.

This position reports to the Associate Vice Provost and Managing Director of the Center for Teaching, Learning & Mentoring.

The mission of the Center for Teaching, Learning & Mentoring (CTLM) is to improve learning for all students by advancing the craft of teaching at UW?Madison.

The Center for Teaching, Learning and Mentoring is part of the Division for Teaching and Learning (DTL), along with the Office of Undergraduate Advising (OUA), the Wisconsin Institute for Science Education and Community Engagement (WISCIENCE), the Morgridge Center for Public Service, and Student Learning Assessment (SLA).

The Center for Teaching, Learning and Mentoring seeks an individual who demonstrates the ability to:
- Foster and promote the values of diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Share complex information in a clear, concise and organized manner in both verbal and written forms.
- Work effectively and collaboratively as a member of a team and as part of a diverse community of colleagues.

Responsibilities:

Leads the development and implementation of proactive diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in support of the division's strategic plan to create a learning and working environment where all have an opportunity to succeed.
  • 5% Serves as a liaison between the division and enforcement agencies and represents the division to the external community, organizations, and agencies
  • 25% Directs strategic planning initiatives and establishes divisional objectives to ensure appropriate allocation of resources
  • 25% Partners with institutional leaders, faculty, students, staff, and internal and external constituency groups to ensure programming supports the division's values and strategic goals and assesses and monitors program effectiveness
  • 20% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 5% Develops and audits the unit budget, monitors financial activities for grant funding
  • 20% Develop fair and equitable practices, policies and procedures for the department and contribute to development at the divisional level.
Tasks:
  • In collaboration with others, lead, develop, & carry out an EDI framework and plan for establishing and enacting equity, diversity, and inclusion as core principles of the CTLM, expressed in workplace culture, work practices, programs, & services.
  • Develop and evaluate accountability measures.
  • Serve as a member of the CTLM leadership team and provide guidance on the CTLM strategic plan and organizational priorities.
  • Advise managing director/associate vice provost, leadership team, and staff on strategies to establish and enact equitable practices within CTLM and throughout CTLM programming and services.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate training and professional development opportunities for CTLM staff to build capacity around equity, inclusion and diversity throughout the organization.
  • Facilitate meetings and conversations centered on equity, inclusion, and individual accountability.
  • Supervise and manage staff who lead the Madison Teaching and Learning Excellence program and EDI-related programming (e.g., learning communities, affinity groups, trainings).
  • Partner with divisional leadership and with EDI staff in other units within the Division for Teaching and Learning to establish, enact and evaluate divisional EDI goals.
  • Establish and nurture partnerships with other units on campus to further EDI within CTLM, the Division for Teaching and Learning, and the university.
  • Other duties as assigned.

- Experience successfully supervising, guiding and supporting professional staff.
- Understanding of and ability to articulate the complexities of historical societal structures that result in power and privilege dynamics that significantly impact individuals, organizations, and communities.
- Awareness of current national trends and effective practices in the areas of equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Experience successfully designing, coordinating, and facilitating programs focused on diversity, equity and inclusion and individual accountability to enhance climate within an organization or community.
- Demonstrated ability to foster and promote the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion within an organization or community.
- Demonstrated ability to interact reflectively and build partnerships among colleagues with different backgrounds and identities and in different project settings.
- Superb oral and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail. Ability to write with clarity, accuracy, and brevity.
- Ability to think and act strategically and to analyze and interpret complex situations and address multifaceted needs, opportunities and challenges.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with university faculty/staff and students preferred.
