The Rice University Football program has an opening for a full-time position as the Director of Creative Media. This position is responsible for assisting the Director of Player Personnel in the overall marketing and branding of the program through the creation of inspiring and innovative visuals that will be used to communicate with the current team, staff, as well as recruit prospective student-athletes across all forms of social media.

Creativity, collaboration with staff, self-motivation, adaptability, and ability to meet deadlines are paramount. The Rice Football Program is looking for a member who contributes new, creative ideas that display the bright image of what Rice Football is all about to a wide range of audiences.

Duties and responsibilities:
  • Coordinates the design, creation, and output of all creative media for the Rice University Football program
  • Plans, executes, and provides oversight of the prescribed communication schedule for prospective student athletes
  • Serves as the lead graphic designer for the Rice Football team with a primary focus on creating visual graphics for recruiting prospective student athletes
  • Plans and produces in-season weekly video series documenting our season
  • Acquires and oversees graphic design student interns in the football office
  • Works collaboratively with Rice Athletics Creative Design team to leverage graphics to achieve the goals of the Rice University Athletic Department.
  • Creates effective design pieces to support the Rice Football department by using motion graphics, social media graphics, website ads, logos, flyers, posters, promotional items, etc.
  • Ensures all displayed media are consistent with the athletic department and graphic standards using approved elements
  • Will work in collaboration with Rice social media, branding and communications, marketing, video and photography teams, in addition to the coaches and staff of Rice Football
  • Coordinates and produces signing day video and graphic production.
  • Develops, executes and oversights of comprehensive yearly branding campaign
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work under time constraints and meet assigned deadlines
  • Proficient in the creation of both online and print design
  • Proficient in shooting and editing video
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite products, particularly Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and After Effects, as well as knowledge and experience of multimedia editing systems
  • Work well with others, and contribute to a positive team environment.
  • Be able to work on several packages at once, with a small group of people, while maintaining the same theme and consistency of the overall program.
  • Adapt and overcome sudden changes in schedule of workflow
  • Ability to follow C-USA, NCAA, University, and Department rules and regulations with the ability to apply to everyday tasks within the department
  • Ability to confidentially conduct photoshoots
  • Managing social media pages across multiple platforms for the department
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • One year of experience in communication, design, or social media
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule, supervise multiple complex productions, meet overlapping aggressive deadlines, effectively motivate and manage student production workers
  • Superior graphic design and photo editing skills
  • Graphics and video portfolio is required
  • Experience with video production
  • Deep knowledge of social platforms including, but not limited to: Facebook, Twitter, Snap Chat, Instagram, Pinterest, Tik Tok; and ability to develop an effective social media strategy across all.

One year of experience in collegiate athletics
