Occupational Therapy Positions for Fall 2022

The University of Puget Sound School of Occupational Therapy, which is ranked by The US News and World Report in the top ¼ of Best Occupational Therapy Schools, is pleased to announce openings for three full-time (non-tenure track), clinic line positions to teach in our dual-track MSOT and OTD entry-level programs. These positions include opportunities for building an academic career that includes teaching, mentorship, professional growth and scholarship, and curriculum development. Opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration are also available.

Responsibilities:

These positions carry primary responsibility for teaching required courses in the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) and Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) programs. Additional duties include graduate student advising, mentoring of student-practitioner collaborative evidence projects and/or doctoral capstone projects, ongoing curriculum evaluation and development, continuation and dissemination of one's own scholarly work, participation in admissions processes, and participation in department and university service. Opportunities for teaching and/or administration in the on-site clinics and/or community-based clinics as well as multi-disciplinary collaborations with other programs may also be available. Teaching in our post-professional clinical doctorate (DrOT) program may be included in the years that the program is offered, depending on the interest and expertise of the successful candidate(s).

Consistent with the mission of the School of Occupational Therapy to “prepare culturally sensitive graduates who provide client-centered, evidence and theory informed occupational therapy to diverse individuals, groups, and populations and enhance clients' participation in meaningful, everyday activities” we seek applicants who value experiential learning and have a strong grounding in the use of occupation-based theory to guide the occupational therapy process. Teaching in a manner that supports students in developing the ability to “use critical analysis of theory and multiple sources of evidence to make sound professional judgments resulting in science-based and creative solutions to the challenges of professional practice” is a priority within our program.

Collaboration in teaching is highly valued in the School of Occupational Therapy thus, teaching assignments may include independent or co-teaching in various courses. Specific teaching responsibilities will be determined according to the interest and expertise of the successful candidates. Primary expertise is desired in some combination of the following areas:
  • functional anatomy,
  • biomechanics,
  • applied neuroscience,
  • foundations of occupational therapy,
  • intersection of sociocultural factors, diversity and health,
  • ergonomics,
  • work hardening,
  • assessment/measurement,
  • OT practice with geriatric populations,
  • pediatric mental health,
  • research methods,
  • evidence-based practice, or
  • knowledge translation

Standard teaching assignment is six units, primarily assigned during the academic year. Summer teaching, where applicable, is focused mainly on mentoring student projects.

Qualifications:
  • A post-professional doctorate, professional practice experience and a commitment to liberal arts education are foundational to success in these positions. Candidates who are near completion of a post-professional doctorate will be considered.
  • A minimum of five years of professional clinical experience are preferred, however candidates with three or more years of clinical experience will be considered.
  • Candidates must have or be eligible for a Washington State Occupational Therapist license.
  • Previous experience teaching in an established entry-level MSOT and/or OTD program and mentoring student projects are highly valued.
  • Research experience and a plan for scholarly activities are desirable.

Application Deadline: Review of applications will begin March 17, 2022 and continue until positions are filled.

Required Documents:
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Cover letter indicating ability to teach at least 2-3 areas of primary expertise from the list specified above
