Department Summary
The Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact is a billion-dollar initiative designed to fast-track scientific discoveries and the process of turning those discoveries into innovations that improve the quality of life for people in Oregon, the nation and beyond. The Knight Campus will reshape the higher education landscape in Oregon by training the next generations of scientists, forging tighter ties with industry and entrepreneurs, and creating new educational opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students.

The Knight Campus is developing a hub where innovative research and discovery will thrive - driving business in Oregon. As we grow into our research facilities, we aim to have 30 teams of scientists and researchers, accompanied by 550 students who will be involved in the research cycle, gaining unique experience. This means the Knight Campus will be not only driving groundbreaking scientific research but preparing a new generation of innovative scientists who will define our future. The collaborative scientific research done at the Knight Campus will break down barriers and accelerate the advancement of science to improve the human condition and benefit the world.
Position Summary
The Knight Campus seeks a highly motivated, ambitious, organized, and communicative individual to provide high-level research administrative support. The Research Administrative Coordinator will be responsible for a broad set of assignments related to the Knight Campus research portfolio. This position provides research administration and grant management services to Knight Campus faculty and affiliates. This position works closely with principal investigators during both pre- and post-award management and is proactive in managing the pre-award process, including establishing deadlines and monitoring progress towards completion. This position will engage in post-award administrative functions, such as compiling reports to meet sponsor regulations, processing complex transactions, and providing guidance on compliance questions.

Additionally, this position will interact regularly with external constituents, administrative colleagues, faculty, students and executive positions in the public and private sector. This position will report directly to the Sponsored Projects Manager and will be an essential role on a growing team. The position is a crucial element of the administration support structure that is envisioned for the billion dollar academic, research and innovation enterprise of the Knight Campus.
Minimum Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree AND three years of progressively responsible experience in research administration, administration of sponsored programs, and/or writing grant proposals.
    o Two additional years of relevant work experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
  • One year of experience in developing, editing, and reviewing proposals, budgets, grants, and/or contracts for adherence to state and federal regulations.
  • Six months experience in an environment working with governmental and granting agency regulations pertaining to grants and contracts

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with overlapping deadlines and frequent interruptions while maintaining a high level of customer service and professionalism.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with close attention to detail.
  • Customer service experience in a professional setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn, understand, and explain university and government policies, rules, and regulations.
    Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional certifications, a Bachelor's or advanced degree in Research Administration, Business Administration, Management, Public Administration or a closely-related field.
  • One or more years of project management experience related to research or grant administration in higher education, research organizations or a related environment.
  • Experience with budget and financial management.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and other software programs including: HRIS/FIS platforms/databases, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Docs.
