Job Summary
The incumbent will assist the Director of Religious and Spiritual Life in cultivating a diverse and respectful climate whereby Alcorn students are free to express and grow in their respective faith traditions. The Assistant Director also provides spiritual advisement to students; encourages student engagement in religious and spiritual offerings by approving campus ministry organizations; planning and speaking at weekend worship services and periodic spiritual renewal events; and offering special opportunities for critical thought and interreligious dialogue.

Competent classroom and religious/spiritual setting instruction
Understanding of diverse religious and spiritual values within a pluralistic community
Collaborative work ethic
Efficiency with social media and other electronic/digital communications
Essential Job Functions
Pastoral Care:
Promotes an environment that welcomes all faiths and spiritual beliefs
Provides pastoral care, personal counseling, and consultation for students, faculty, staff and parents
Serves as a confidential resource under the Title IX
Provides leadership and officiates at religious services in the absence of the Director
Community Engagement:
Fosters relationships with community religious and nonprofit organizations
Facilitates the development of mutually-beneficial partnerships and collaborations with community religious and nonprofit organizations
Provides information to assist students in connecting to area faith communities
Coordinates student involvement in community engagement activities
Represents Alcorn as ambassador in the broader community in concert with or in the absence of the Director
Attend religious, philosophical, and spiritual events, conferences, gatherings to represent Alcorn
Service Leadership:
Provides transformational experiences through service to others
Works with students, faculty and staff to strengthen campus commitment to global citizenship while promoting social justice and ethical leadership
Coordinates retreats and conferences
Coordinates short term service trips with guidance from the Office of International Programs and Student Affairs
Leadership and Administrative Duties:
Advises various religious student organizations
Serves on campus committees and develops programs, as requested
Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Licensing and Certifications
Ordination and/or endorsement from religious or spiritual organization preferred.
Physical Requirements
Work in noisy (above 85 decibels) areas
Sedentary Work - Exerting 10 pounds
