Assistant Dean of Student Experience

About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Dean of Student Experience is responsible for the management, oversight and coordination of student-centered undergraduate Academic Advising and Co-op Education in the College of Arts and Media Design. The Assistant Dean will oversee CAMD Academic Advising, CAMD Co-op,and the programming in each area. The Assistant Dean will also oversee the Director of Advising and Director of Co-Op, who will act as subject-matter expert coaches to the Advisors and Co-Op Faculty.

The Assistant Dean will have a strong focus on network student population integration, finding ways to create streamlined processes, smooth student experience, and increased belonging amongst N.U.in, NU Bound, and Study Abroad students. In collaboration with others, the Assistant Dean will also focus on integrating CAMD's new Ph.D program with the Co-Op and Advising programs.

The Assistant Dean will also provide broad oversight over curriculum. The Assistant Dean will serve as the front-facing role for curriculum management, primarily fostering communication with the Co-Op and Advising programs. The Assistant Dean will also collaborate with team members and ensure that curriculum management activities and goals are satisfactorily executed. The Assistant Dean will run the Curriculum Committee and Academic Affairs Committee, serving as a non-voting member.

The Assistant Dean will collaborate with both the Advising and Co-Op teams to develop annual plans and goals for the groups as a whole as well as for each team separately. They will provide leadership in aligning these goals with College and University goals. They will also be responsible for integrating these two areas more closely to foster a more holistic undergraduate experience. Finally, the Assistant Dean will be responsible for growing relationships and collaboration opportunities for Advising and Co-Op across colleges and academic departments.

The Assistant Dean will report to the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs and will work closely with them in planning new strategies and programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Excellent organizational skills. Strong people skills and high emotional intelligence/ Collaborative and communicative. Ability to create and maintain a positive spirit among the groups that will underpin a commitment to providing quality service among and between the groups. Ability to think strategically, and to be able to advise and motivate a team of professionals. Knowledge and skills required for this position are normally acquired through a master's degree and at least 7-10 years of experience, including evidence of increasing managerial responsibility over time and a track record of successful implementation of organizational structures and of programs.
