General Description The Whiting School of Engineering seeks a skilled major gift officer to join our team in achieving our annual, major, and planned giving program objectives. Reporting to the Senior Director of Development, the Associate Director of Development is an integral member of the School’s Development and Alumni Relations team in our effort to secure philanthropic support for the Whiting School to pursue its mission of education, research, and translation. Our team is dedicated to connecting the passions of our donors to the needs of the School to realize our mission. The Associate Director of Development will be responsible for identifying and cultivating relationships with prospective major and planned giving donors. This involves prospect research and developing effective solicitation strategies as well as stewarding donors throughout the major giving process. The Associate Director of Development will maintain a donor portfolio with a focus on gifts of $50,000 and above. Our alumni and constituents are located around the world, but this position will be focused on the Northeast corridor of the United States, with a few other states throughout the country, and local Maryland alumni.The primary duties and responsibilities of the job:

Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a prospect pool
of alumni and other key constituencies in
the U.S. for major and planned
gifts.
Manage all Whiting School constituents in the assigned
territory in partnership with other Homewood Schools
development offices.
Plan
and execute solicitation strategies leading to annual and
major gifts; Travel extensively throughout the
territory to pursue these strategies and build
enduring relationships,
completing at least
150 visits per year.
(Note: our team has returned to traveling to meet with donors in
person, but gift officers are also expected to conduct virtual
meetings as needed).
Prepare proposals, solicitation letters, gift
agreements, and other development materials for
prospects and donors that articulate Johns Hopkins University’s
needs, values, and ambitions.
Communicate with major prospects
and donors about specific ways to give,
both current and deferred, to maximize gift and tax
benefits.
Build
and manage a portfolio of 100-150 prospects with the capacity to
make major and/or planned
gifts.
Develop, in consultation with the Associate Dean
and Senior Director of Development, an annual work plan, a schedule
of fundraising goals, proposals to be presented, and
planned visits in accordance with institutional
standards.
Work to create a major gift pipeline for
the Whiting School of
Engineering.
Document all development activity in the Johns Hopkins
ALADIN database.
Build
a strong network of collegial partnerships with development and
departmental representatives in areas across the
institution.
Partner with the constituent engagement team to
ensure event attendance in assigned territories, as well as to
recruit and support key volunteers who could assist in the School’s
advancement efforts (i.e. mentoring, panel
presentations, lecturers, etc.)
Attend functions and meetings and serve on
internal/external committees as a representative of the
Whiting School.
Assist in developing materials for specific
fundraising activities and/or promotional efforts, writing,
speaking, calling, etc., as
needed.
On a
daily basis, directly interact with donors, donor advisors, and
others via virtual meetings, telephone,
email and
mail.
Coordinate follow-up and implement appropriate tracking of
inquiries.
Serve
as a liaison to at least two Whiting School of
Engineering departments.
