The University of Washington (UW) is recruiting a full-time faculty member in Radiation Oncology as an Associate or Full Professor without tenure by reason of funding. This will be a position with a clinical practice and protected time for scholarly activity. The disease site specialization will be gynecologic malignancies. The successful candidate may develop a clinical and translational research program, specialized training program and contribute to all segments of the academic mission. The Department of Radiation Oncology has an established mentorship program that supports junior faculty and others in professional development. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. The selected candidate will be proposed for appointment to the full-time faculty at the University of Washington as an Associate or Full Professor without tenure by reason of funding on the regular faculty track (either Clinician-Scientist or Clinician-Educator) with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2023 or earlier. Associate or Full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
Faculty in the Department of Radiation Oncology practice at several of our partner institutions: Fred Hutch Cancer Center (which includes Seattle Proton Center, South Lake Union Cancer Clinic, Peninsula/Poulsbo Cancer Center and FHCC Northwest Hospital), University of Washington Medical Center, Seattle Children's Hospital, Harborview Medical Center and VA Puget Sound, provide an extensive and outstanding array of radiation oncology modalities for cancer patients. Technical capabilities of the Department include 8 Elekta linear accelerators, 1 Varian Ethos, IMRT, VMAT and SBRT capability, Gammaknife radiosurgery with the Perfexion ICON system for multi-fraction SRT; 7 CT simulators, direct access to MRI and PET/CT based planning; Pinnacle, CMS, Raystation, MIM, LDR and HDR brachytherapy, IORT, intravascular brachytherapy, respiratory gating, C-RAD and Calypso beacon localization. Proton Therapy and an active Neutron Therapy program further broaden the technical capabilities and therapy options.
NOTE: This position may require work to be performed on-site at a Fred Hutch Cancer Center (FHCC) facility. FHCC requires all individuals, including University of Washington faculty clinicians, working at a FHCC facility to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. UW Medicine and its partner institutions (UWMC, Fred Hutch Cancer Center including its Proton Center, Seattle Children’s Hospital, VA Puget Sound, Harborview Hospital) provide an extensive and outstanding array of radiation oncology modalities for cancer patients. The Department of Radiation Oncology treats over 2,800 patients annually from a multi-state region covering over 25% of the U.S. geographic area. The University of Washington has the only Radiation Oncology department in North America that has clinical particle beam delivery systems for both proton and neutron therapy. Our clinical approach is collaborative with numerous multidisciplinary clinics, tumor boards and disease specific chart rounds. We are a part of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and have strong translational and clinical research collaborations. The Department has 29 physicians, 8 advanced practice providers, 26 physicists, and 3 research faculty. Educational opportunities in our residency programs, fellowship programs and post-doctoral fellowships abound. A strong interest and commitment to research and education is expected, as well as strong collaboration with the multidisciplinary clinical teams.

The successful applicant must have an MD or a DO, or foreign equivalent, and be board certified or eligible in Radiation Oncology with the American Board of Radiology (ABR); candidates who are ABR board eligible must become board certified within two years of faculty appointment.
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-US) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
