Summary/Objective

The Fitness Facility Manager is responsible for oversight of the maintenance and inventory of all fitness equipment as well as the supervision of the Manager on Duty staff. The incumbent works with other Recreational Sports & Fitness and Athletics and Recreation facilities management staff to ensure that all fitness facility and equipment maintenance needs are being met on a daily basis.

Essential Functions
  1. Facilities: Manage and implement a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for all fitness equipment, locker rooms, and other indoor sports & recreation equipment. Maintain and control inventory of all cleaning supplies, uniforms, replacement parts, and replacement equipment. Serve as primary liaison to Facilities Management for the fitness centers. Serve as liaison to fitness vendors and equipment maintenance technicians. Manages the equipment repair budget. Initiate, research, and monitor indoor facility maintenance and improvement projects. Work closely with appropriate project leaders in FM and PPM.
  2. Supervision of Part-time and Student Staff: Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate a team of ~20 part-time Managers on Duty. Schedule and train all ~6 full-time and ~20 part-time Managers on Duty. Maintain CPR/AED/First Aid records for all Manager on Duty staff.
  3. Operations: Manage locker rental service for the Jacobs Fitness Center. Manage informal recreation checkout for recreation equipment at Jacobs and Cassell. Serve as the primary administrator for Connect2 application. Work with Campus Police to assign and maintain facility access permissions.
  4. Manager on Duty: Serve as the manager on duty (MOD) at the Jacobs center 2 shifts per week. (concurrent duty)
  5. Programming: Expand Fitness Equipment orientations. Manage, schedule, and promote informal recreation. Create and manage Intro to Sports programs to promote opportunities for underserved populations.


Supervisory Responsibility
  • Hire, train and oversee 20 part-time & student Manager on Duty staff.
Work Environment
  • Regular office hours are from 9:00am-5:00pm. However, this position requires the ability to work early morning, evening and weekend shifts as needed.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience
  • Prior experience supervising fitness staff or student workers.
  • Organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of emergency action and fitness safety procedures.
  • Current American Red Cross CPS, AED, and First Aid certification or the ability to obtain it within 90 days of hire.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree in fitness, exercise science, kinesiology or closely related field.
