As part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Ancilla College of Marian University invites applications for an Instructional Technologist. This position will promote Ancilla College of Marian University’s Catholic mission and identity by advocating for and supporting the effective use of instructional technology to enhance the students’ learning experience. This requires 1) identifying emerging technologies well-suited for the University, 2) applying innovation and creativity to recommend and develop new resources and new uses of existing resources, and 3) developing and disseminating accessible materials, documentation, modules, workshops, and resources to support the effective use of available technologies.   Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values, honoring the legacy of the founding congregation, promoting unity in diversity, and integrating the Catholic Franciscan intellectual traditions in courses, programs, and services
  • The Instructional Technologist has the following four areas of responsibility and will assume other responsibilities as needed to support the operation of the Center:
  • Instructional Technology Support for Faculty and Students –The Instructional Technologist will be responsible resolving questions presented either by individuals directly, tickets received from the Help Desk, or vendor communications. This requires maintaining a calm and constructive demeanor in order to effectively trouble-shoot technology issues and/or to find innovative, practical solutions to support different teaching and learning scenarios. It is important to manage communication effectively and work closely with other campus offices (e.g. IT, Registrar, etc.), our schools and colleges, and Academic Affairs to ensure policies and practices are followed.
  • Instructional Technology System Administration – The Instructional Technologist will need to understand how our various instructional systems work in order to effectively provide direction on its use, maintain the service, test new functionality, and provide needed administrative support. Systems include, but are not limited to Canvas, Panopto, Respondus, Qualtrics, and TurnItIn.
  • Production of Instructional Materials – Using sound instructional theories and principles, the Instructional Technologist will help create and/or produce instructional materials to engage students in the learning process. This can include large scale printing, video conversion, lecture capture, multimedia learning objects, etc. Faculty Development – Through the presentation of workshops, individual consultations, and development of instructional materials, the Instructional Technologist will train and support faculty on the appropriate use of software and technical resources

Additional Responsibilities include the following

  • Assist in the maintenance of the Center’s website following University design guidelines.
  • Manage resource articles in the University’s knowledge base.
  • Collaborate on the development, implementation, and evaluation of goals and initiatives of the department.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Communications, Adult Education or related subject area and at least three years’ experience OR equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • A Master’s degree in instructional design or educational technology is strongly preferred.
  • Technical fluency in Canvas (or a comparable learning management system), as well a commonly used applications, software, and databases used in higher education including MS Office, Google suite, Camtasia, TurnItIn, Respondus, etc.
  • Evident knowledge of instructional design theories and practices, appropriate uses of instructional technologies, and effective teaching methodologies in online, hybrid, and face-to-face instruction.
  • Evidence of being a proactive, collaborative problem-solver and team member.
  • Organized and able to effectively manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. • Evidence of the ability to take ownership of projects and work independently to achieve expected goals.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Experience in working with adult learners.
