Data Analyst



Job Summary

The Data Analyst, under the direction of the Director of Data Analytics, collects, evaluates, and prepares research and/or other statistical data for different stakeholders within the University. Prepares statistical, visual and narrative reports and recommendations, and participates in the analysis and interpretation of data as appropriate, as well as their dissemination. Develops, maintains, and ensures quality control of databases, develops dashboards and graphic visuals to support university strategies and may assist in development and implementation of measurement systems.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Develops data collection instruments; develops and utilizes instruments and methods for the evaluation and quality control of research or operational data.
  • Collects, summarizes, and/or analyzes data in preparation for generation of statistical and analytical reports and data driven decision making.
  • Develops, documents, and maintains processes and procedures for institutional data quality and integrity.
  • Utilizes specified statistical software to analyze and interpret research data, as appropriate to the individual position.
  • Maintains appropriate records of research methods and results.
  • Work under guidelines for statistical reporting, analysis, and predictions governed by unit procedures, processes, and manuals.
  • Collaborates with other institutional departments to create and enforce data standards, definitions, coding and reporting practices.
  • Assists in accreditation efforts through the support of data analysis.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
  • Two years of professional full-time experience in an appropriate area of specialization.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access and Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in social science, information systems, data analytics, statistics, research methodology or related field.
  • Experience in data analysis utilizing query writing or statistical software applications (SPSS, SAS, SQL, etc.)
  • Experience designing and deploying interactive dashboards and graphic visuals using development tools such as Tableau, or other similar tools/software.
  • Experience in an academic or university setting preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to the position.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of survey research, statistical analyses, and studies utilizing quantitative data.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
  • Strong research, analytical and technical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare complex written and oral reports based upon quantitative, as well as qualitative data.
  • Ability to compile, organize, interpret, and communicate data and results in a concise format.
  • Ability to design and implement systems necessary to collect, maintain, and analyze data.
  • Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to think critically and make clear, well-reasoned and timely decisions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.
  • Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversity of its student body and workforce and actively promotes equity and inclusion.
S alary Range: $41,900 – Negotiable
