Position Summary

This is a grant-supported full-time position with the Cultivating Access to Manifest INtentional Outcomes in STEM ( CAMINOS ) award, sponsored through the ARMAS Center at NMHU . This grant creates a partnership between ARMAS and three two-year institutions in Northern New Mexico (Santa Fe Community College, UNM -Taos, and Luna Community College) to broaden student engagement in STEM in the region to develop a robust STEM workforce.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Student Experience Coordinator ( SEC ) will be responsible for seeking out opportunities for students to conduct STEM research in a laboratory or field setting. Emphasis will be placed on connecting students with STEM research opportunities outlined in existing and future NMHU grants (internships, work-study jobs, peer-mentoring, professionally mentored projects, etc.). The SEC will help to maintain a database of such opportunities and be the direct contact person for PIs managing grants from diverse disciplines (biology, chemistry, geology, computer science, forestry, environmental science, etc). In addition, they will mentor STEM transfers to ease their transition to NMHU and to streamline their pathway to graduation and job readiness. The SEC will also work closely with the Project Director and Co-PIs to develop regional programming for grant participants at the high school and postsecondary levels.

Minimum Job Requirements

The candidate must have a BS or equivalent degree in a STEM discipline, with at least 1 year of research experience in a laboratory or field setting. The candidate must also have excellent communication and organizational skills, be able to demonstrate the ability to work in a team setting, and be highly self-motivated.
