Position Overview

The University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR), a statewide program with local development and delivery, is seeking the following UC Cooperative Extension (UCCE) Advisor.

 

Location Headquarters:  UCCE Marin County, CA

 

 

Purpose. The Community Nutrition & Health Older Adult Advisor will implement an innovative extension education and applied research program to address health issues related to older adults (60+) in Marin, Napa, and Sonoma Counties.

 

 

 

This position offers the opportunity to address a myriad of key health issues related to older adults in the San Francisco North Bay with particular emphasis on older adults of color and low-income older adults who experience disproportionately poor health outcomes and shorter life expectancies. Issues may include community health and nutrition; the social determinants of health; chronic disease management; equitable access to healthcare or health systems; and policy, systems, and environmental change strategies across sectors. The intended outcomes and impact of this work are to improve community health and nutrition outcomes among older adults in the region.

 

 

 

This is an exciting opportunity to develop and deliver relevant program content to have meaningful impacts in local communities as well as provide academic expertise and thought-partnership on related initiatives throughout California.

 

 

 

Opportunities abound for extension and research partnerships with a variety of stakeholders and partnerships, including Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL), SNAP-Ed, UC Master Food Preservers, Community Health Workers/Promotores de Salud, Food Policy Councils, Food is Medicine, the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program, Farm to Senior initiatives, Meals on Wheels, Congregant Dining, as well as various senior-serving organizations and older adult residents. The advisor joins a team of highly motivated UCCE colleagues who are passionate about their work and are dedicated to making a difference within the communities and throughout California. The potential for collaborative projects within the UC ANR system is nearly limitless.

 

 

Counties of ResponsibilityThis position will be headquartered in the UCCE Marin office, CA, and also have programmatic activity in Napa and Sonoma Counties as well as some statewide collaborations, influence and impact.

 

Reporting Relationship: The CE Advisor serves under the administrative guidance of the University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) County Director of UCCE Marin with input from the UCCE County Directors of Napa and Sonoma Counties.

Qualifications and Skills Required Required Qualifications

Education: A minimum of a Master’s degree in nutrition, human development, public health, nursing, geriatrics, or a related field is required at the time of appointment. A professional certification as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Registered Nurse (RN) will be considered.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license. Expectation to be available to work onsite on any day. Technical competency in research design and experience with extension. The ability to work with clientele across a wide range of ages, socio-economic classes, races, ethnicities, and languages is essential. A background investigation will be required for the successful candidate, including fingerprinting and a criminal history clearance by the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This position is subject to the requirements and compliance of the California’s Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA).   Employment within UC ANR is contingent upon securing written acknowledgement to comply with California law.

Demonstrated ability to effectively plan projects, manage teams and implement an applied research and outreach program, including setting measurable goals and objectives.

Demonstrated excellence in written, oral, interpersonal and information technology communication skills.  Public speaking to stakeholders is a routine part of this position.  Spanish language proficiency is desired.

Salary & Benefits Salary: The beginning salary will be in the Cooperative Extension Assistant Advisor Rank and commensurate with applicable experience and professional qualifications.  For information regarding Cooperative Extension Advisor salary scales, please refer to the University of California website: https://ucanr.edu/sites/anrstaff/files/358478.pdf.   If the successful candidate is currently a UCCE Advisor, the candidate will be offered the position without change to the candidate’s current rank, step, salary and/or appointment terms; and if applicable, is eligible to retain indefinite status.
