Job Description

The Assistant Director of Licensing and Trademarks will help with the management of the university’s licensing program working within the University Relations Marketing team, supervised by the Director of Brand Development and Trademark Licensing. The Assistant Director of Licensing and Trademarks assists in the development and implementation of product marketing strategies, working with key stakeholders, for positive public awareness campaigns to promote officially licensed merchandise to consumers. This position assists in the review process and enforcement of proposed licensed products, advising the Director of Brand Development and Trademark Licensing. This position helps cultivate relationships with licensees and retailers by conducting and attending licensee/retailer events, tradeshows, and meetings to increase awareness of university initiatives and activities. This position helps manage licensee relations on a day-to-day basis, as well as handling relationships with strategic partners including national licensees, local retailers, and on-campus partners. This position is expected to present to both internal and external audiences on the university’s licensing guidelines, which they are expected to keep updated. This position will be expected to assist the Director in the registration and renewal of all university trademarks. As part of the Assistant Director of Licensing and Trademarks’ role they will be expected to support the university brand by wearing as appropriate, branded apparel provided to them by the university, these may be licensee samples or other products bought for promotion of the brand.

Required Qualifications

The well qualified applicant will possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

Bachelor’s degree and significant experience

Demonstrated presentation/public speaking experience

Demonstrated advanced writing, and communication skills

Proven marketing experience, preferably in retail sector

Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships

Experience in developing and implementing strategic and operational plans

Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact with individuals at all organizational levels

Experience using various computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software

High ethical standards, maintaining impartiality and enforcement equally across the organization

Self-motivated and willing to embrace the concept and attitude of teamwork in a complex organization

Ability to travel approximately 30% of the time including some overnight

Preferred Qualifications

Licensing administration experience in a university setting or similar complex organization

Experience in contract negotiation, management, corporate sponsorships, and budget management

Advanced degree in marketing, business administration, communications, sports administration, or related field

Public relations experience

Familiarity with trademark law, administration, and practices

Working knowledge of social media and e-commerce strategies

Familiarity with current global social justice challenges and experience working with advocacy groups such as Students Against Sweatshops

Experience in graphic design and developing marketing campaigns

Experience using Web Content Management Systems
