Position Purpose

Provides a broad range of support services and programming to students, including those with marginalized and intersecting identities related to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, class, ability and first-generation status. The OMA Coordinator will assist in providing students with the emotional and instrumental support needed to be successful at the Academy by providing guidance, encouragement and engaging activities.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assists with 3-day International Student Orientation (ISO) or The Equitable Exeter Experience (E3) and perform dorm duties. Unique for first week of school
  • Assists the Office in planning activities for various Heritage and History Months, for example: Black History Month, Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month, Women’s History Month, etc.
  • Assists with events put on by OMA sponsored groups (for example the Asian Student Mixer or International Tea) as the need arises.
  • Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending trainings, courses, or conferences, as needed or required.
  • Directly through work in OMA (supporting student walk-ins, OMA emails), this person will contribute to a learning, living, and working environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and the development of skills to engage with those of different backgrounds.
  • Assists with chaperoning duties for OMA sponsored events, including on campus at Hair Emporium, The Academy’s hair salon for BIPOC students or off-campus events (field trips)
  • Advise one or two OMA-sponsored clubs, including but not limited to Indigenous Reconciliation Club, Students of Caribbean Ancestry, International Student Alliance, Asian Voices, Sub-Continent Society

  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • High degree of organizational skills with the ability to be flexible and multi-task with accuracy.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions, maintain a professional demeanor and restraint at all times, including stressful situations.
  • Ability and willingness to travel (by car, air, train or bus) domestically as needed.

Position Requirements

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Fields such as Student Development, Counseling, Social and Behavior Sciences, and Liberal Arts desirable.
Experience
  • 2 years’ experience/volunteerism in diversity, equity or inclusion leadership, internship or activities. Work in secondary, boarding school or with adolescents preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with or mentoring diverse, underrepresented, marginalized and first-generation student populations. Sound judgement, awareness and sensitivity to the interests and concerns of these populations.
  • Demonstrated experience in collaboratively working with students, faculty and administrators and other campus offices to support and expand cultural competence.
  • Experience with and understanding of contemporary adolescent/student development issues, trends and best practices.
  • Proven experience in supporting programs, services and activities to support the academic and social enrichment of students (adolescents/young adults).
  • Facility with the utilization of technology, marketing or social media to promote objectives preferred.
  • Must possess a record of service that identifies concern for the safety and well-being of others.

  1. Successfully complete a criminal background check (reviewed every 5 years ).
