Job Summary

The Associate Director of Drexel University Physical Therapy Services is a dynamic clinician with interest in clinical administration, Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) and residency education, and a progressive, evidence-based, results-driven model of physical therapy practice. The Associate Director’s time is split between practicing as one the clinic’s primary physical therapy providers and administrative roles related to clinic management, clinical instruction, and development of the practice. As part of patient care, this individual serves as a mentor to DPT students and orthopedic residents. Opportunities exist for teaching into DPT coursework, performing research/scholarship, and developing fee for service ventures in the department’s new facilities in the Health Sciences Building on Drexel’s University City campus.

Essential Functions
  • Provides expert evidence-based evaluation and treatment to patients.
  • Supervises and instructs Doctor of Physical Therapy students who are at the clinic as part of integrated or terminal clinical education experiences, i.e., acts as a preceptor.
  • Supervises and instructs orthopedic physical therapy residents, i.e., licensed professionals, in Drexel’s orthopedic physical therapy residency.
  • Assist’s Drexel’s orthopedic physical therapy residency director with the management of the residency to include admissions, scheduling, accreditation reporting, mentoring, and other administrative tasks.
  • Supervises front desk staff and co-ops employed by the clinic to assist with scheduling, billing, and other clinic administrative staff in collaboration with the clinic director.
  • Interviews and assists with hiring decisions for clinic staff/co-ops, physical therapists, and other employees in collaboration with the clinic director.
  • Manages insurance billing and related contracts in collaboration with the clinic director.
  • Responsible for monthly and annual financial reporting on clinic revenue and performance in collaboration with the director of the practice.
  • Manages physical therapist performance, schedules, and related reviews/reporting in collaboration with the clinic director.
  • Organizes and assists with training and development programs for clinic personnel in collaboration with the clinic director.
  • Manages ordering of supplies, equipment, and other resources used by the clinic.
  • Establishes a strategic plan and monitors progress in collaboration with the clinic director, physical therapists, and Drexel’s Department of Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Sciences (PTRS).
  • Creates, implements, and manages a marketing plan for Drexel Physical Therapy Services in collaboration with the director, Drexel PTRS, and associated services.
  • Creates new fee for service ventures that capitalize on the unique talent and resources available at Drexel University and maintains metrics on their performance.
  • Maintains a safe clinical environment that’s in compliance with environmental, occupational, and medical safety regulations.
  • Maintains clinical expertise and cutting-edge treatment through continuing education.
  • Maintains positive relationships with key stakeholders to include Drexel Athletics, faculty/staff, alumni, referring physicians and providers, physical therapists in the community, and others.
Required Qualifications
  • PhD or Doctorate in Physical Therapy
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
  • Graduate of an orthopedic or sports ABPTRFE accredited residency.
  • Certification as an orthopedic and/or sports clinical specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists
  • Experience managing/supervising students, residents/fellows, or other clinicians

  • An understanding of insurance and credentialling procedures.
  • Alignment with the mission and direction of the PTRS Department.
  • Pennsylvania physical therapy licensure or eligibility and direct access certification
