SUMMARY
GRCC is seeking faculty who possess an interest in working with diverse student populations from a wide range of age, ethnicity, national origin and ability; engage in and develop innovative teaching strategies; effectively assess student learning outcomes; demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development; and provide service to our students, the college, and our community at large.
Faculty members are responsible to GRCC and to each other for the successful completion of departmental work, as well as work associated with Workforce Training and GRCC as a whole. In addition to the major position responsibilities, it is expected that faculty demonstrate outstanding communications skills, collaborate effectively, use personal initiative to overcome obstacles and work efficiently to meet deadlines. In an environment where innovation is valued, each faculty member will take responsibility to perform their work in a manner consistent with both the letter and the spirit of GRCC values.
Essential Job Functions
-
Teach the Automotive Technician - Job
Training class and facilitate daily lesson plans, instruction and
lab projects.
Assist in the coordination of
facilities planning, equipment upkeep and purchasing.
Effectively assess, document, and
advise students regarding their academic and clinical
performance.
Demonstrate a commitment to a learning
centered environment.
Incorporate new technologies and
methods for enhanced teaching and learning into instructional
methods.
Engage in ongoing professional
development to maintain expertise in the field and communicate
outcomes with faculty and administration.
Maintain professional
certification.
Advise students on curriculum, academic
programs, and employment and career goals.
Participate in departmental academic
plans.
Demonstrate sensitivity to and
understanding of students from diverse backgrounds with a wide
range of abilities.
Provide departmental leadership in
Automotive
Contribute to the growth and
development of the department and College by participating in
academic program review; curriculum development, evaluation and
revision; committee membership; department and advisory committee
meetings.
Assist the Program Manager in the
preparation of reports and other required documents.
Promote the department by creating
partnerships with state and local communities, businesses, and
schools.
Adhere to College processes, policies,
and contractual obligations.
Support the College's Strategic Plan
through departmental and college action projects as
appropriate.
Support the department and the College
through other work normally expected of GRCC faculty members.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Support the development and
implementation of teaching techniques using audio/visual, computer,
and group interaction techniques.
Support the Department/Program and the
College by advising students, participating in committee work, and
performing other tasks normally expected of faculty members.
Adhere to the standards and
requirements expressed in the faculty contract.
Manage the communication and support
systems with local industry and professional organizations to keep
updated on technology, hiring trends, job placements, and
expectations of GRCC SWD graduates.
Develop and maintain curriculum that
reflects the current job skill requirements for graduates.
Maintain the student attendance
reporting system and GRCC purchasing process.
Assist other GRCC staff and instructors
by sharing expertise, projects, and class coverage.
Assist students seeking employment upon
completion of training.
Assist support staff in following up
with graduates.
Maintain requirements of accreditation
body NATEF
Special projects as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education/License
-
Associate's degree in related field
required. Candidates with an Associate's degree may be considered
with the understanding that a Bachelor's degree must be achieved
prior to receiving tenure.
Bachelor's and Master's degree in
related field preferred.
Master ASE certified.
Work Experience
-
5 years or more of private sector
experience in automotive or other related field.
Two (2) years teaching experience at
the college or university level with automotive and technology
experience preferred.
Experience working with non-traditional
students from diverse backgrounds and with varying academic
skills.
Experience with a variety of learning
technologies is preferred.
Equipment Use/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Familiar with the hiring practices and
skill requirements for local industry.
Appropriate technology required to
perform the duties of the position.
Physical Demands

Excellent written and oral
communication skills.
Must be able to sit or
stand for long periods of time.
While performing the
duties of this job, the employee will be regularly required to use
hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls;
and reach with hands and arms.
Ability to frequently
climb up and down stairs and balance and hear.
Required to stand, walk,
and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Must occasionally
physically lift and/or move up to 40 to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities
required by this job include close vision, distance vision,
peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust
focus.

of Automotive as determined by professional standards of
practice.
