Be yourself and start your career here. Help us build a better Brockport! Job Summary: SUNY Brockport is currently accepting applications for a Communication Specialist. The person in this role will dynamically tell the SUNY Brockport story to a variety of stakeholders. This individual shows a passion for social media while managing SUNY Brockport's primary social media channels, pitches story ideas to local/regional/national media, responds to media inquiries, acts as a secondary college spokesperson, and generates written stories for the Brockport website and e-newsletter.

This individual works with a talented team of storytellers - writers, videographers, and photographers - to cultivate content ideas, craft compelling stories, and share them with our audiences in a variety of different ways. They will be the voice of SUNY Brockport on social media, proactively and reactively engaging with the college's followers. Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in communications, journalism, marketing, business, or related field, from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university.
  • Minimum of three years of professional experience in public relations or media or managing social media for a brand.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent portfolio of work that showcases storytelling capabilities, including social media posts.
    *Examples must be shared as part of the application process.
    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with various reporters and media outlets.
  • Experience being interviewed by the news media.
  • Familiarity with social media management software.
  • Basic graphic design skills.
  • Ability to capture compelling video and photography with a smart phone.
    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 am - 4 pm Salary and Benefits: Minimum Salary is $50,525. May be benefits eligible; more information at Careers@Brockport.
