The Ph.D. in Infant and Early Childhood Development (IECD) is an interprofessional, multidisciplinary degree with an emphasis in infant mental health (IMH), and a developmental, individual differences, and relationship-based (DIR®) approach to assessment and intervention. The program was founded in 2009 by Stanley Greenspan, MD and Serena Weider, PhD, to promote research in relationship-based practices for working with infants, children, and their families. The Fielding IECD program, in partnership with other key organizations and stakeholders, offers world-class leadership in the field and courses that support infant-child mental health and developmental competencies. Through Fielding’s unique and progressive doctoral program, professionals from the fields of mental health, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech and language, nursing, social work, special education, and other disciplines broaden their knowledge, deepen their holistic interprofessional views of children and families, and develop strong doctoral level research competencies.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

We are seeking a few adjunct faculty to teach practice-based content courses. Preference will be given to scholar-practitioners who have taught at the doctoral level and/or have a record of supervising doctoral research and scholarship, and who can teach courses in infant mental health, reflective practice/supervision, social-emotional development, cross-cultural understanding, and DIR® based courses such as, social-emotional development, individual differences and developmental psychopathology, developmental disabilities, and language development.

 

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or other terminal degree related to infant and early childhood development (e.g., Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Social Work, Special Education, Speech-Language Pathology, etc.). Successful applicants will have a record of scholarly work in their field and a rich understanding of the philosophy of Fielding’s unique IECD program. We seek scholar-practitioners who have:

• A record of research/scholarly publications and/or practitioner experience in Infant Mental Health (IMH), and Development, Individual Differences, and Relationships (DIR®)

• A PhD in a related field.

• Background in occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech language pathology, psychology, healthcare, social work

• Experience teaching online at the graduate level

 

Courses are 15 weeks in length. Faculty provide 2 hours of live lecture (via video conference) per week although there is flexibility on day(s) and specific time. Fielding operates on a three-term year (January, May, September). Adjunct faculty would teach 1-3 classes per year total.

 

Positions will start to be filled for the Spring term.
