Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Associate Athletic Director of Academic and Student-Athlete Support Services, the Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development will develop and provide innovative opportunities for Drexel student-athletes in the following areas (but not limited to): Dragons Edge (personal and entrepreneurial development) programming, Dragons Leadership Academy (DLA), personal and career development, and oversight of SAAC. Additional responsibilities include providing academic support, creating a student development program that supports and student-athlete growth through programmatic engagements in the areas of personal, team and organizational development.

Essential Functions
  • Create multi-disciplinary programs to enhance the personal development and overall well-being of student-athletes.
    • Promote an atmosphere of diversity and inclusion through educational programming.
    • Develop, execute and evaluate first-year programming, Drexel Leadership Academy (DLA), and Dragons Edge.
    • Partner with Alumni Relations to develop networking events
    • Partner with athletic and campus partners to develop programs around well-being.
  • Serve as the SAAC advisor and point of contact for all events and initiatives.
  • Work with SAAC to develop events that enhance the student-athlete experience.
  • Co - Coordinate the Best of the Blue & Gold with Marketing.
  • Serve as Civic Engagement Liaison that will oversee all events and requests for the department.
  • Connect student-athletes with campus resources that assist in career readiness and placement.
  • Maintains an inclusive culture that intentionally develops partnerships with departmental, campus and external partnerships to create a culture of belonging for everyone (ie, International Services, Center for Black Culture, LGBTQ office, etc).
  • Coordinate Drexel Academic Award Ceremony to recognize our high achieving academic performers.
  • Provide a comprehensive academic support program to maintain APR / GSR / GPA o Advise and monitor academic progress of student-athletes through meetings, contact with faculty, and progress report information.
    • Assessing academic needs of student-athletes, coordinating, and carrying out appropriate support and intervention strategies.
    • Working collaboratively with college advisors to ensure that student-athletes are making academic progress toward their degree.
    • Working collaboratively and effectively with coaches and sport administrators to promote an educational atmosphere that promotes academic achievement.
  • Serve on athletic department or University committees as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director of Academic Support.
  • Meet with recruits to provide overview of academic services, resources and University Programs.
  • Assist the Associate Athletic Director for Academic and Support Services on various projects as assigned.
  • Demonstrate ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and according to FERPA guidelines.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in athletics, student development or advisement in a university or college setting, including internship work.
  • Experience in developing, executing, and evaluating student-athlete development programming.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations as they pertain to initial and continuing eligibility.
  • Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and selected weekends.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and with a diverse population of student-athletes in a team atmosphere.
  • Ability to work with various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs.
