Program Director of Intramurals and Club Sports (Current UVU Employee's Only)

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:
Responsible for the overall vision, strategic planning, assessment, and operation of the Intramurals & Club Sports and Student Life Athletic Training programs. Manages, trains, supervises and evaluates staff including full time Program Manager and Athletic Trainer, part-time staff, and 25-30 student staff consisting of administrative staff, event supervisors, and referees. Coordinates the scheduling of all leagues and events for 30+ intramural sport leagues and tournaments such as flag football, soccer, basketball, and etc. in addition to 15-20 Club Sports teams. Implements daily and weekly events such as laser tag, open play, and sports nights and adding additional programming to meet the needs and demands of Students. Maintains accurate records, including insurance coverage and liability waivers for intramural and club sports participants. Oversees the budgeting and management of Intramural Sports, Club Sports, and Athletic Training budgets totaling $162,000 with additional revenue ranging from $30,000 to $40,00. Including oversight of individual Club Sports budgets for coaches, travel, club dues. Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree plus one year of experience related to the Summary of Duties or any combination of education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling five years.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of sports and recreation program management, practices, procedures, and techniques and intra/extramural sports program management.
  • Knowledge of laws and issues and rules dealing with recreational athletics.
  • Knowledge of facility and sports field maintenance.
  • Knowledge of liability insurance and ability of monitoring participant requirements.
  • Knowledge and experience with basic computer programs such as word processing, spreadsheets desktop publishing and other basic functions (email, internet, etc..)



  • Skills in development and coordination of intramural sports programs, including policy/procedure development.
  • Skills in supervising employees and game refereeing.
  • Skills in financial management, including monitoring budgets.

  • Ability to create marketing and design strategies for Intramural Sports & Club Sports.
  • Ability to develop and maintain web site for online registration of events, leagues
  • Ability to develop resources on and off campus in support of programs.
  • Ability to train employees in operation of programs and be involved in training referees on fundamentals of most sports.


Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in Health, Wellness, Exercise Science, Recreation Management, or related field and two years of experience; OR a bachelor’s degree as described above and four years of experience related to the summary of duties. More than one year experience in Intramurals and Club Sports. More than one year experience hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating and supervising staff.

Physical Requirements:
Physical ability to officiate in indoor and outdoor settings and work in a general office environment.
