Department Statement
The Assistant Director provides leadership and support for the day-to-day operations of the Financial Aid Office. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Associate Dean and Director of Financial Aid to implement financial aid policies, procedures, and initiatives which support the goals and objectives of the office and the university. Accountabilities
This position will have the following responsibilities and accountabilities:
This role participates in all aspects of financial aid administration and counseling, maintaining knowledge of federal and institutional financial aid regulations and requirements to ensure legal, fair, and consistent administration of federal, state, and institutional financial aid funds. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Associate Dean and Director of Financial Aid and the Financial Aid Leadership Team to implement financial aid policies, procedures, and initiatives which support the goals and objectives of the office and the university. Accountable for providing top level customer service, advice, and counseling to students and families as they make decisions about college planning and financing. Expected to exercise discretion and independent judgment in carrying out job responsibilities. Attention to detail, ability to work independently to complete review of financial aid applications under a tight timeline, and accountable for meeting deadlines. Assist with system processes and functions including full utilization of PowerFAIDS to ensure compliance and enhance efficiency. Help write and maintain various financial aid publications. Assist in preparation of statistical, budget, and survey reports. Participate in training to keep well-informed of financial aid regulations.

Position provides for the opportunity to work remotely from CT, GA, MA, NJ, OH, RI, VA, and NY without relocation. Work requires collaboration with other team members during standard business hours and may be required, on occasion, to report to our Hamilton, NY campus. Remote arrangements such as this are reviewed annually. Professional Experience/ Qualifications
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in a Financial Aid Office.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working within a diverse environment and interact collegially with students, faculty, staff, and visitors from different backgrounds on a daily basis.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team and collaborate with others.
  • Demonstrated empathetic customer service skills and experience advising others.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and a high comfort level with public speaking before large groups is required, and an ability to effectively engage audiences through dynamic oral presentations is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office and financial aid databases (e.g. CPS, COD, NSLDS, and ELM ).
  • Knowledge of a financial aid management system is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with NCAA rules is desirable.
  • Experience with PowerFAIDS is preferred.
  • Experience with institutional methodology (IM) and need analysis is preferred.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Master’s degree is preferred.
