This is a full-time tenure track faculty position teaching courses primarily in the area of Computer Science (CSC).  This is a faculty position that has broad curriculum responsibilities and also coordinates adjunct faculty who teach the programs’ courses.  Base load is 15 credit hours of teaching per semester or equivalent in credit instruction.



A.    Teaching – A faculty member is expected to prepare for and teach 15 credits in the fall and spring terms.  Overload teaching is available with the approval of the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Services.

B.    Assessment – A faculty member is expected to assess learning outcomes at the course, program, general education and institutional levels. 

C.    Student Advisement – A faculty member is expected to advise students on courses, programs and career/transfer objectives, with support from Student Affairs.

D.    Student Advocacy – A faculty member should be committed to student learning and success and be available to help students as needed.  

E.    Curriculum Development – A faculty member must be current in his or her field and transfer that knowledge to students in course content and teaching delivery, as well continue to update curriculum with changing technology.  

F.    Recruitment and Marketing – A faculty member is a college ambassador with special obligations to promote his/her discipline or program to students and to the local community. 

G.    Shared Governance – A faculty member participates in all levels of shared college governance, including- departmental, divisional and institutional-wide activities. 

H.    Professional Development – A faculty member maintains an approved professional development plan that supports the college’s strategic goals.

I.   College Service – A faculty member is expected to serve the college in activities addressing departmental responsibilities, and/or community outreach, and/or student and campus life activities. 

J.    Community Service – A faculty member serves the college in voluntary community service activities that positively reflect that college’s image and is not in conflict with the college’s strategic goals or faculty responsibilities. 



A.    Develop and deliver courses related to program requirement courses for an A.S. in Computer Science, and related programs such as Certifications and A.A.S. in IST.

B.    Develop, market, and conduct CSC/IST workshops and program promotion in local schools and the community.

C.    Be able to develop and teach courses in many of the areas listed below:

a)   UNIX/Linux


b)    Introductory Information Technology


c)    Introductory C /C++ 


d)    Advanced C /C++ 


e)    Java


f)    Python


g)    Systems Design and Analysis


h)    Database Management


i)    Microsoft Operating Systems and Spreadsheet Software


j)    Other programming languages as needed




D.    Recommend adjunct instructors for courses in areas of responsibility.

E.    Attend meetings and professional development activities and serve as a point of contact between HCC and various public and private sector organizations.

F.    Facilitate articulation of A.S. CSC courses with secondary education and bachelor degree level education.

G    Participate in two CSC/IST/CYB advisory meetings in an academic year.  Create relationships with local IT industry via Advisory Committee structure and maintain student centered activities- articulation agreements, job recruitment, student advising, and student recruitment.

H.    Provide guidance for internship experiences.

I.    Advise CSC Students (and possibly some in related fields such as CYB or IST)

J.    Continually maintain professional development in CSC/IST program areas.

K.    Continually strive to develop and enhance CSC/IST courses.

L.    Perform duties as assigned by the Director of Technology and Computer Studies.

M.    Plan and facilitate grant-related activities. 

N.    Determine Student Learning Outcomes for courses taught and complete Student Learning Outcomes Assessments each year to include both Program assessment and Course Assessment.

O.  Arrange equipment, supplies, and materials necessary for instruction, prepare syllabi for all assigned courses, and select or assist in selecting textbooks, course packs, open electronic resources, and all ancillary materials for assigned courses.

P.    Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which include advising students; orientation and registration of students; participation in College committees and regularly scheduled academic functions such as division meetings, workshops, special colloquia, convocations, and graduation ceremonies; keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students); and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance. 


Master’s degree in Computer Science (CSC) required; related field such as Information Systems Technology or Computer Information Systems may be considered, but priority will be given to candidates with a CSC degree.  

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with a background in one or more of the following areas: object-oriented programming, operating systems, database management, or application development, and a Master’s degree in Education/Teaching or a contract requirement to complete a Master’s degree, may be considered. Priority will be given to Master’s degree candidates.

Priority will also be given to candidates with recent teaching experience at a professional, undergraduate, or community college (preferred) level.


Candidates should possess excellent written, oral, and organizational skills with the ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and administrators.  Applicant must possess the ability to develop and deliver curricula for hands-on instruction integrated across multiple platforms and have up-to-date technology skills including integrated learning through a learning management system.
