Function and Scope

The Office of Residence Life at St. Lawrence University invites applications for a Residential Coordinator (RC) to join our Student Life team. The Residence Life program at St. Lawrence includes a residential component to one of the nation’s oldest living-learning programs for first-year students where faculty and Student Life efforts are integrated in meaningful ways. The University also offers upper-class students a variety of housing options, including living-learning communities, theme cottages, townhouses, and traditional residence halls. As a residential campus, approximately 99% of our students live in University housing.

Residential Coordinators are responsible for implementing a comprehensive residential program within a selected area of campus while working as members of a collaborative Student Life team. St. Lawrence University offers RC positions aimed at supporting the First-Year residential experience within our First-Year Program (FYP), as well as RC positions supporting students who reside in upper class residential communities.

Primary Responsibilities

This position is responsible for providing adaptive leadership in the daily administration and community development of a select area of the University’s residential community. This includes supervision of approximately 20 Community Assistants (CAs) in a first-year residential area comprised of three buildings, housing a total of 350–500 residents.

Residential Coordinators are full-time, 11-month, live-in professional staff who report directly to the Assistant Director of Residence Life and collaborate on the following residential program functions: community development, supervision and mentoring of the CA staff, development of CA selection and training programs, housing selection, and the ongoing development of a relational community building model based on the concept of self-authorship. Residential Coordinators advise groups of CAs on programming councils to develop residential programs to promote engagement opportunities in the areas of social connection, wellness, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The RC position has evening and weekend on-call responsibilities approximately one week per month and will work with CAs and Student Life staff when crisis situations occur. This position may also advise class councils and/or student organizations and serve on various University committees.

Minimum Qualifications

A Master’s degree in a related field is required. Prior experience in higher education as a professional staff member or a student employee is strongly preferred. Successful candidates will demonstrate a theoretical understanding of student development and an appreciation for working in an inclusive, multicultural environment at a private liberal arts college. They will also possess initiative, personal integrity, excellent interpersonal communication skills, a collaborative spirit, and a good sense of humor.

Remuneration includes a competitive pay rate and benefits package, a furnished on-campus apartment, and board plan when classes are in session.

The anticipated start date for this position is August 1, 2022.

Interested applicants must apply online at http://employment.stlawu.edu uploading all required materials which are defined in the “special instructions to applicant” section.  Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. All offers of employment are contingent upon the finalist successfully passing a background (including criminal records) check.
