Salary & Benefits:                     Salary is $87,507.20. Compensation package is comprised of many college paid benefits including health and life insurance, retirement, leave time, and tuition waivers for Santa Fe College and the University of Florida.


Classification:                            Full-time, Executive Managerial, Pay Grade EM7, Exempt.

The Legal Affairs department is seeking an Associate General Counsel who is responsible for exercising discretion, under the direction of the General Counsel, in reviewing and developing contracts and other legal documents;  conducting research and providing recommendations used to establish rules, policies, procedures and administrative guidelines of the college; representing the College and advising its employees with respect to various legal matters, including the proposed charter high school and all areas of higher education law. Legal Affairs support includes, but is not limited to, reviewing, revising, and drafting contracts, rules, procedures, and guidelines; responding to public records requests, subpoenas, writs of garnishment, and other legal requests; and conducting legal research and drafting memoranda, correspondence, and other documents.   




Responsibilities and duties include:



  • Conduct legal research, which includes interpretation of primary and secondary law sources, in the areas of higher education and charter/secondary school law
  • Use excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey research results, provide guidance to General Counsel and represent the Legal Affairs division as needed
  • Conduct training for members of the college community
  • Review, revise, and draft contracts (may include legal research).
  • Maintain client confidentiality
  • Assist with information management, document retention, filing public notices and other compliance- related items.
  • Gather information and respond to public records requests, subpoenas, court papers and other legal actions
  • Analyze and review, revise and draft college rules, procedures, and administrative guidelines.
  • Serve on college committees and assist in gathering information, reviewing policies and/or making recommendations to the General Counsel.
  • Comply with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.
  • Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Reports to: Sr. Vice President, Chief of Staff, and General Counsel, Legal Affairs






Required:  Juris Doctor degree and one year of related work experience as an attorney or a combination of completed education and/or related work experience equal to 8 years.




Preferred: Experience working in an educational environment. Experience with contract management.




Other:  A criminal background check will be conducted

  • Ethics – able to demonstrate integrity, professionalism, civility, and a high degree of ethics in all job-related actions. Able to effectively handle confidential and proprietary information.
