Job Summary:

We seek a candidate who is able to contribute to the department's expertise in human development. Expertise in adolescent development is particularly desirable. Particular attention will be given to scholars whose research, training, and teaching addresses fundamental processes of human social development that relate to modern issues faced by youth in community and educational settings.

Departmental Information: The Department of Educational Psychology's mission is to advance education-related theory and methodology; to improve knowledge about the biological, psychological, technological, and social processes of learning, development, and mental health in diverse populations; and to enhance learning and mental health in educational and community contexts through innovative educational interventions and effective prevention/intervention programs.

The Department of Educational Psychology ( ) offers both undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as graduate degrees (PhD and MS), in the area of Human Development. The Human Development Program Area is housed within the Department of Educational Psychology, along with programs in Learning Sciences, Quantitative Methods, and School Psychology. The Human Development program also has strong ties with the Wisconsin Center for Education Research ( ) and the Waisman Center ( ).

The Department of Educational Psychology is currently ranked as the #1 Department of Educational Psychology according to the U.S. News & World Report. Madison, Wisconsin is one of the most livable cities in the United States. The department and university provide a stimulating and supportive environment for research, teaching, and programmatic funding with a strong value on collaborative and interdisciplinary research.


The successful candidate will actively participate in the research, teaching, and training programs of the Department of Educational Psychology. Candidates are expected to (a) establish and maintain a research program that involves success in publishing empirical research and active pursuit of external funding to support scholarly activities, (b) teach courses in the candidate's general and specific areas of expertise, and (c) effectively mentor students.

Terminal Degree
Doctorate in Educational Psychology, Psychology or any related field, by August 2023 start date
