Job/Department Summary:

Nurse Practitioner: Under general administrative and medical direction of the Lead Physician, and using established standardized procedures and processes, the Nurse Practitioner works within the established scope of practice, providing a wide range of primary health care services to eligible students, including assessment, diagnostic, preventative and health maintenance services; and regularly performs health education and participates in health promotion activities. Typical responsibilities include: conducting physical examinations; diagnosing, treating, and managing illnesses and injuries; ordering tests and interpreting the results; and counseling patients on preventive care. This position may be assigned to either primary care or the acute care clinic. The scope of practice is established in writing by the supervising physician and is limited to those functions that the physician determines the Nurse Practitioner is competent to perform. Competency is determined based on the supervising physician's assessment of the Nurse Practitioner's capabilities, education, training, and experience.

WellCat Health Center (WCHC) is an outpatient acute care clinic, staffed by physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants who provide medical care to students enrolled in the University in accordance with policies set by the Board of Trustees of California State University. An in-house licensed pharmacy, federally-certified laboratory, and x-ray department complement the services available. The basic clinic schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m.

Mandatory Vaccinations:

The CSU requires faculty, staff, and students who are accessing campus facilities to be fully immunized against COVID-19 or have received a medical or religious exemption. Selected candidates should be prepared to comply with this requirement.

Preferences:

Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:
  • Bilingual.
  • Valid and current Advanced Practice Nurse National certification, which may include American Nurses Association (ANA), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB), or American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN).
  • Valid and current National Commission on Certification of Physician’s Assistants (NCCPA) certification.
  • Work experience in more than one medical specialty, such as that which would be gained through working in a multi-specialty group practice or outpatient medical clinic.
Required Education and Experience:

Nurse Practitioner:

Master's degree or higher from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program required.

Incumbents must be clinically competent in a medical specialty such as: family practice, internal medicine, women's health, or primary care, and must possess sufficient experience to independently perform the duties of a Nurse Practitioner within that specialty.
  • LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS: Possess (or ability to obtain by date of hire) and maintain the following:
    Valid and current California license as a Registered Nurse and a BRN certificate evidencing that the individual is qualified to use the title of Nurse Practitioner, as required by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
  • Valid and current BRN Furnishing certificate.
  • Valid and current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) number and certificate.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
Physician Assistant:

EDUCATION:
Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program.

EXPERIENCE:
Incumbent must be clinically competent in a medical specialty such as: family practice, internal medicine, women's health, or primary care, and must possess sufficient experience to independently perform the duties of a Physician Assistant within that specialty.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS: Possess (or ability to obtain by date of hire) and maintain the following:
  • Current unrestricted California license as a Physician Assistant.
  • Ability to obtain valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) number and certificate.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
Time Base: Full-time- 1.0

Pay Plan: 10/12 or 11/12 (months off TBD)

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, Summer - Mon-Thurs 7:00am-5:30pm.

Salary and Benefits Information:

Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant:

10/12 Pay Plan: $5,073 - $9,790 per month / $60,876 - $117,480 annually

11/12 Pay Plan: $5,581 - $10,769 per month / $66,972 - $129,228 annually
