Hiring Department

The UMKC Support Services department is looking for an IT Supervisor to support and manage campus computer labs. This professional supervisory position is part of a team that oversees 30-40 student workers who provide front-line customer support and basic technical troubleshooting in 10 general and departmental computer labs located on UMKC’s Volker and Hospital Hill campuses. The lab management team is also responsible for maintaining excellent lab environments, inventory tracking and upkeep, and effectively communicating with a broad base of customers in complex and varied situations.

Job Description

Work includes a wide range of responsibility in providing excellent lab experiences:
  • Hiring and training student employees
  • Scheduling student employees in computer lab sites
  • Tracking and maintaining lab supplies
  • Monitoring student employee and work performance
  • Managing payroll for student employees
  • Efficiently communicating useful information to employees and clients through web pages, email and lab signs
  • Serving as a technical resource for students, faculty, and staff
  • Troubleshooting technical issues to maintain maximum availability for client use
  • Assisting with lab upgrades, including workstation and printer installations
Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be aquired as necessary. In addition to the minimum requirements, the ideal candidate will demonstrate:
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to coordinate, train, supervise, and manage the activities of others to accomplish goals
  • Familiarity with computing lab equipment such as Windows PCs, Macintosh PCs, flatbed scanners, and laser printers
  • Must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, expecially Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Teams
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing student employees in a higher education environment
  • Familiarity with best practicies regarding interviewing and hiring employees
  • Practical knowledge in web editing
  • In-depth experience with computing equipment, such as Windows PCs, Macintosh PCs, flatbed scanners, and laser printers
  • Experience with workstation troubleshooting and/or repair of Windows PCs
Full Time/Part Time

This is a full-time, benefit eligible (100% FTE), salaried (exempt) position

Salary

$47,476 - $55,000/annual commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity

Shift

Work Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
