Position Summary
The Associate Director of the Residential Experience is part of the Residence Life Leadership Team responsible for fostering community and intellectual stimulation in the residence halls by drawing upon the academic and campus resources offered by the faculty and that of a research university and the larger community.

The Associate Director oversees the management of the day-to-day operations of the residence halls and ensures that the essential priorities (community development, safety and security, wellbeing) of residence life are implemented and exceptionally executed in the residence halls.

The University of Oregon residence life team utilizes a curricular model to engage and educate undergraduate residents through student leaders and professional staff members. The Associate Director will be directly responsible for ensuring the curriculum and community engagement plans are meeting their objectives and effectively engaging residents through strategies including individual interactions, programs, activities, and community meetings. The Associate Director will work collaboratively with campus partners to further the mission of University Housing specifically in the areas of building inclusive community, establishing a sense of belonging and home, and students succeeding academically.

The Associate Director will ensure that there is an academic & intellectual presence in the residence halls through effective academic and Residence Life partnerships within current and future collaborations, such as the Faculty in Residence, Academic Residential Communities and Faculty Fellows. The Associate Director of Residence Life will focus on the assessment of learning, operational and program outcomes.

The Leadership Team collaborates to cultivate strategic relationships with academic partners including but not limited to Undergraduate Education and Student Success, Robert D. Clark Honors College, UO Libraries, and specific academic departments, colleges, and research centers in developing and implementing Academic Residential Communities. Additionally, the Associate Director partners with a myriad of UO departments to create, support and achieve successful living learning communities, and to expand the learning outcomes and co-curricular academic initiatives throughout the residence hall system. Ultimately, the living learning communities of University Housing aspire to broaden first-year and returning students' vision of what it means to be a “learner” at a liberal arts academy and research extensive institution; deepen students' understanding of how knowledge is created and disseminated; and integrate their residential and academic lives.

The Associate Director effectively works and teams up with all Housing units, Human Resources, Business Operations, Facilities, Dining Services, Information Technology, and Promotions & Student Recruitment to accomplish the strategic plan of University Housing. Furthermore, the Associate Director oversees the implementation of assessment instruments to evaluate the efficacy of residence life programs and academic residential communities. A principal pedagogical objective of the leadership team is to expand the academic enterprise beyond the walls of the classroom and foster out-of-class interaction between students, staff, and faculty so that learning and academics becomes an integral and essential part of the residential experience.

The Associate Director supervises 3 professional staff and reports to the Director of Residence Life and Educational Initiatives.
