CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Since its founding in 1847, The City College of New York has provided a world-class higher education to an increasingly diverse student body serving as one of the most important avenues to upward mobility in the nation. Access to excellence remains the vision of the College today. The College strives for excellence in its wide-ranging undergraduate and master’s programs (including programs in the only public schools of engineering, architecture, and biomedical education in the city) and in its 13 on-site CUNY doctoral programs, all of which are designed to prepare students for successful careers as well as for continuing graduate and post-graduate education. The College's commitment to excellence is further exemplified by its emphasis on scholarly research and creative work and the integration of both with teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

The Dean of the Division of Humanities and the Arts reports to the Provost. The Dean provides strategic academic leadership for the Division and is responsible for leading the planning, development, and implementation of policies and initiatives relevant to all aspects of its academic programs, research, instructional technology, global engagement, faculty and student development, and enrollment management. Direct reports to the Dean include seven program directors and four administrative direct reports as well as eight elected department chairs. He/she will be actively engaged in budget planning, resource development, and assessment of student learning. The Dean oversees a division with 204 full-time and part-time faculty and staff and more than 2,400 students matriculated in the Division's undergraduate and graduate programs. The Dean must be a leader of intellectual breadth and recognized accomplishment who possesses the vision, commitment, and ability to advance a complex division at an urban, public institution. The successful candidate should understand the opportunities and challenges facing a public university and possesses the skills, leadership, and vision to advance the Division in this complex environment.
