Job Description

As the Marketing Analytics and Research Manager, you will play a critical role in providing insights and research that influence Virginia Tech’s marketing strategies, close knowledge gaps, inform audience segmentation, and foster data-driven decisions within our marketing organization. You will inform future university marketing initiatives, and report on the performance of current marketing campaigns.

You will lead routine and ad-hoc reporting of marketing performance, aimed at strategic insights. You will pull data from our digital and social advertising, email, and CRM platforms to evaluate performance, look for trends, and make optimization recommendations in partnership with colleagues. Your core goal will be to tell a narrative through the data, and demonstrate the impact and/or opportunities for our marketing campaigns.

You will lead proactive market research studies to understand what motivates our target audience to take an action and how to reach them. You will lead focus groups, constituent interviews, and brand research studies. You will be pulling insights and data from internal and publicly available federal and state databases. This insight will inform everything from our creative and messaging approach to our advertising strategy.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Marketing, Business or a related field and significant work work experience or a Master's degree. || Experience with queries, gathering, analyzing reports, and presenting findings using tools such as Microsoft Power Point, Excel, Word, and Access. || Experience working with web analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, etc.). || Knowledge of omni-channel data sources: CRM, social media, web, paid media, etc. || Working understanding of using data visualization tools (Tableau, Domo, etc.). || Experience defining goals and KPIs. || Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of speed and accuracy, with strong attention to detail. || Desire and ability to learn new things in the world of data and marketing. || Highly organized, with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. || Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to work with diverse audiences (students, faculty, staff, alumni, and donors).

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Marketing, Business or a related field. || Deep understanding of omni-channel data sources: CRM, social media, web, paid media, etc. || Experience working with using digital media advertising platforms to pull data such as Facebook Ads, Google Ads, LinkedIn Ads, and Twitter Ads. || Advanced experience using data visualization tools (Tableau, Domo, etc.). || Experience using tag management tools like Google Tag Manager. || Experience leading focus groups, constituent interviews, or brand research studies.
