Job Description

The Thomas E. Cook Counseling Center of Virginia Tech is actively recruiting mental health professionals as we continue to grow and develop a diverse and vibrant group of professionals to serve our student body of 32,000. The multidisciplinary staff of counselors, marriage and family therapists, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers works to deliver services that maintain the highest standards of professional and ethical care. We are looking for active and engaged colleagues who wish to contribute their energies to our team of hardworking and competent professionals. We have multiple positions available on our Blacksburg and Roanoke campuses. |The Cook Counseling Center is accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services and its internship program is accredited by the American Psychological Association.|The mental health professional responsibilities include the following: providing individual services to students including initial assessment, diagnosis, and determination of treatment needs; conducting individual, couples, and group psychotherapy with students; conducting crisis interventions as needed during afterhours emergency oncall rotation; providing outreach services to the university community; supervising graduate students in training. Occasional travel may be necessary to attend seminars, retreats, continuing education and professional development opportunities.

Required Qualifications

Terminal degree in a mental health field;||Eligibility for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia.||Supervised experience in a mental health setting. Supervision may be provided with a goal of licensure within two years of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Interest and experience in working with underrepresented students and international students.||Experience in working in a college counseling center.||Experience in providing group psychotherapy.
