Assistant Director - Marketing (Athletics)

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:
Utah Valley University is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic leader with attention to detail, a collaborative spirit, and a focus on innovation for the position of Assistant Director - Marketing. This position reports to the Assistant Athletic Director - Marketing with duties that include, but are not limited to:
  • Oversees the marketing budget for assigned sport programs and other select initiatives
  • Manages the day-to-day marketing efforts for assigned sport programs and other select initiatives, focusing on Revenue Generation/Ticket Sales, Fan Experience, Social Media/Broadcasting, Brand Awareness, Innovation/Creativity, Student-Athlete Experience, Community Outreach, and Attendance
  • Manages a team of part-time and student employees
  • Develops event scripts and coordinates various “game day” functions for assigned sport programs and other select initiatives
  • Coordinates with the Director of Creative Design on assigned sport programs, creative design efforts, and implementation of assets (digital and print advertising, digital marketing, reports, in-venue assets, etc.)
  • Assists the Assistant Athletic Director-Marketing with implementation of season, group, and single game ticket sales for assigned sports and other select initiative
  • Assists with the fulfillment of sold inventory by the Development team (Major Gifts, Corporate Partners, Annual Fund, etc.)
  • Creates and nourishes relationships with both campus and community to grow support of UVU Athletics
  • Assists the Assistant Athletic Director-Marketing with the implementation of marketing strategies for WAC, Big 12 Conference, and NCAA Championship events hosted by UVU
  • Recruits, supervises, manages, and mentors interns, student employees, and part-time employees
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
Minimum QualificationsGraduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling four years.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of UVU policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of the regulations governing intercollegiate athletics as set forth by the NCAA, the WAC, and the BIG 12
  • Knowledge of technical writing, marketing practices, and budgeting and fiscal management
  • Knowledge of how to operate and maintain all game day production equipment



Skills
  • Skills in developing marketing materials used for promotion, advertising, fund raising, etc.
  • Skills in judgement and diplomacy required to interact effectively with and provide customer service to a broad audience
  • Must possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite software (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

Abilities
  • Ability to uphold and abide by all NCAA, WAC, and BIG 12 regulations and UVU Institutional policies and procedures
  • Ability to create and implement marketing and promotional strategies to help increase attendance and revenue for UVU Athletics, as well as enhance the fan experience and game day atmosphere for home contests
  • Ability to manage a set budget as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director-Marketing
  • Ability to recruit, train, and supervise staff employees associated with the Athletic Marketing team
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with various campus and community constituencies
  • Ability to work with people in public relations settings
  • Ability to plan, organize, and problem solve
  • Ability to interact and communicate with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to work under pressure, multi-task, and meet deadlines


Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred QualificationsProficient in digital and print design, video and photo shooting and editing.Experience working in collegiate athletics.Knowledge of NCAA Rules and regulations.

Physical Requirements:
Working in an office environment requiring continuous talking, hearing, seeing and fine hand manipulation for computer use. Working in the Athletics division requires walking, standing some lifting up to 10 lbs. regularly along with occasional bending, twisting and kneeling.
